D.C. Diamonds All-Star Cheerleading

About the D.C. Diamonds

The D.C. Diamonds All-Star Cheerleading Squad is a nationally competitive cheerleading program that began in the Washington, D.C area in fall 2002. The team is a Junior All-Star team which means that its members must be in grades 2 through 9.

All-Star Cheerleading is the nation’s fastest growing competitive sport. Members of an All-Star team do not cheer for a sports team, but instead compete against other All-Star squads. Team members have the opportunity to compete locally, nationally, and abroad.

All-Star cheerleading provides its members with more than travel opportunities. Studies show that young ladies who are involved with athletic activities have higher levels of self esteem, lower levels of depression, a more positive body image, reduced chance of breast cancer and osteoporosis, and a better understanding than non-athletes of teamwork, goal setting and achievement.

The primary objectives of the D.C. Diamonds are to help young people build self-confidence and self-esteem, develop the ability to work under pressure and as a team, learn how to develop goals and to meet them, and to gain leadership skills. Through practice and competition, these athletes will learn the 4 C's--character, committment, consistency, and cooperation. By working to achieve these goals, D.C. Diamonds members are also being prepared for success in high school, college and the rest of their lives.
