DEAD INSIDE
My heart beats and the blood flows through my veins
I breathe the air around me with such a quiet disdain
If you were to see me
You'd say I'd seem quite alive
But the truth, my friend is
That I feel dead inside
My eyes take in the sights
And my eardrums rebound to the sounds around me
I laugh and I cry
Sometimes, I even smile
And if you were to see me
You'd say I'd seem quite alive
But the truth my friend is
That I feel dead inside
So I lean back in my chair and smoke another cigarette
I stare at the flickering screen and it gets me to wondering
What is the point of being alive when I feel so dead inside?
Why am I still alive when I feel so dead inside?
Why?
Why?
Why?
So the clock ticks patiently upon my song
And I force another breath of air through my lungs
I shrug my shoulders and then decide
That I must, keep going on
Though I feel dead inside.
