1990 saw me backpacking through Turkey and sighting my first Anatolian Shepherd Dogs.  This being pre internet days for me, on my return to Australia, I scoured local libraries for snippets of information about these magnificent dogs that I'd seen and discovered that they were all the things  I was looking for to replace my very old Collie:  natural guardians, capable of travelling long distances (I  have horses), impervious to heat (that proved wrong!),calm, aloof and can be taught to live peaceably with other animals. The information that was available to me was so minute.

I tracked down a breeder of Anatolian Shepherd Dogs in another Australian State (NSW) and waited 18 months for my puppy to arrive at the airport  in 1993.  For all my  experience  and success with my gentleman collie ( by this time 15 years old) I soon discovered  I new nothing at all!!!!!

Khan was bred by Mr Anthony Poschinger of Stockguard Anatolians (since retired) on a working sheep farm from working parents and he has true Livestock Guardian characteristics.

However Khan otherwise known as Stockguard Aslan (pictured below) soon grew into the most magnificent companion/guardian.  He goes with me everywhere dogs are legally allowed to go.

Sadly, Khan died 14 years and 3 months in his sleep in December 2008 and is still very much missed.

For his last five years of life he enjoyed the the company of
"Cappadocia Jon D'Arc" aka Luchs, a bitch bred by Mrs Maureen Charnstrom of Cappadocia Kennels in South Australia, born on the 16th October 2002.  Luchs is planning on being a mother in the near future and to find out more about her, please visit her page by clicking here.

Khan has been replaced by Takas Fate aka Yahsi bred by Takas Anatolians who was born on 18th April 2008.  He will be my new stud dog.  For more details on Yahsi, please click here.
