![]() | Due to my labor being total of 77 hours, my birth story is quite long. Hopefully you can make it though it.
SaturdayI had full day of stuff to do and really had the urge to get them done. I started with the laundry. My husband help load all the laundry in the car. After unloading them at the laundry mat his went and pick up his cousin. I came back and waited until they had unloaded it. It was off to grocery store. I was picking stuff up left and right. I still had almost a month to go, but I was stocking up. I was almost done when I got a little pain and another customer check on me. The pain had gone away as quick as it came. The stock boy had fun find places to put all the groceries. The trunk was full, the passenger font seat and floor board was full. The back seat and the floor board was full. Even the car seat for a future baby had a bag of groceries in it. The only room left was for big ole me. My husband and cousin unload the car while I unpack and put away. I went to lay down for work that night and they left so I could sleep. I worked 11 pm - 7 am shift. About hour later I had horrible back pain, tears came to my eyes. It was Saturday, no way to reach my doctor. I thought maybe I over did it, and some rest I will be fine. But the pain would come and go. Maybe the baby moving down again. My husband came in and found me awake. I told him to call me in, there was no way I could work with this much pain. Finally the pain went way and I got some much needed sleep.
SundayThe pain was back but not as bad yesterday. I took our cousin home which was 20 miles away. He thought I was going to give birth each time the pain would hit. By the noon the pain had quit. I told my husband I was going to call the doctor first thing Monday Monday 2AM I woke to my bed soaked. I got up and started cleaning up the bed and myself. Hmmm, that sure is a strange smell. I was wondering if my water had broke. My husband was at work. My MIL was at work too. I still had almost a month to go, and there no pain. I went to back to bed. 7AM I got up and dress. I waited till 8 to call the doctor. My husband was not going to be home till 9. It was ten till 8 so I walked over to the in-laws. They live a lot from our house. I asked to used the phone to call my doctor. Sure they said. MIL wanted to know what was up. I told her everything. She told me forget the call and soon as David, my husband, get home, go to doctor. He will want to see you immediately, it sounds like your water broke. 9AM My husband was coming down the road. I got off the front steps before he even pull into the drive way. I jump into the car, and told him to head the doctor office. I told him everything that happen this morning on our long drive, 45 minutes. He drop me off at the door while he park. The office was attached to the hospital. They took me right in. After checking my weight, blood pressure, and giving them the sample. My husband finally found me. They only person available was the nurse practitioner I told my doctor I never wanted again. He agreed to never to give her to me. She took one look at me and snob "You're not in labor. You're not having no pain." We passed my doctor in the hall who was busy. He look at me like what are you doing here. After the nurse practitioner got done with the test to see if my water did break. She took a look at the strip, and to her surprise it was positive. I never will never forget her surprise statement "Well, I guess you are in labor." As instant her surprise attitude came and went that fast. Before she left the room she snob "Now honey, get dress and wait. We are going to get you a wheel chair and take your over to the hospital. We don't you want to walk over." I was just about ready to choke her. 11AM I am finally admitted at 1 1/2 dilation. They gave me the last bed available. They put in my IV, and monitors are placed on me. Pitocin and fluids are now being push though my body, as they explain Pitocin, the monitors, and what might take place. My mind was going bonkers thinking about all the things that could go wrong with a preterm baby, especially before the 36th week. They always push for the 36th week. But I was only a day from my the 36th week. There was one thing that did catch my attention while the nurse was talking. "Clear liquid diet till baby comes." "What!!!! I had no breakfast!! Here's it almost noon!!!!" my mind was saying. 1 PM A birthing room is now available, so I being moved as the family arrives. I am good spirits, still no pain. Contractions are showing up on the monitor. I cutting up and laughing with they family. 5PM Finally my first meal!!!! Although its beef broth, Jell-O, and some other strange stuff. I am so hungry I don't care. But still no baby. Tuesday Morning The doctor comes in and breaks my water more. I am told it shouldn't be much longer. But I am scare it has been over 24 hours since my water broke. He reassures me and tells me "After 72 hours they will have do a c-section. But its ok and safe till then." noon The nurse are tired of seeing me. One nurse asked me if i knew what the sex was. I explained to her why we didn't know. Then she asked me the names I picked out. Matthew David for a boy, Elisha Marie if a girl. The next thing I know she at the foot of my bed. "Matthew..Matthew David...Come on out....please." I laughed at her thinking she was nuts. She looked at me and said, "Its a girl." somewhere around 3 I just can't seem to get comfortable and get rid on the urge to have to go the bathroom. My SIL can't take much more of unplugging and plugging my monitors. Then we I think it can't no worse here's comes the puking. "How can I puke when I didn't eat much my clear liquid lunch?!?!?" was racing though my mind. I was uncomfortable again. I was thrashing in my bed, almost pulling out my IV twice. They check my progress I was only at 2!!! The Doctor walked in and order the epidural. I got my epidural early. After it was started and handed the magic button, I was asleep. 30 minutes later the baby was lost on the monitor. The nurses woke me and explain they was going the a monitor on the baby's head. To their surprise and mine it was time!!! I was rim. One went to get the doctor. He came with his attendant. As soon he introduce his attendant he had go to another room, but will be right back. As soon as I heard his name, Dr. Reach, my mind told him, "You better reach up and get this baby, Dr. Reach." Dr. Reach and the nurse started me on pushing. My doctor arrives when the head has crowning. Dr. Reach was excited and wanted to cut. My doctor explain to him that I didn't need it. Everything was going smooth until I felt strange poke. I started yelling at the doctors, "Get your finger out!!". To shut me up both doctors raise their hands in the air for me to see. They were now able to explain to me, that the baby was coming one shoulder at a time. The last shoulder is stuck. After getting the head and shoulders out, I thought I couldn't go any further. I couldn't hear my baby cry due to so much noise in my room. I made myself give one good hard to push to save my baby. It's a girl!!!!! 5 pounds 10.3 ounces, 18 1/2 inches long. Elisha Marie. 4:53PM I got to hold her only long enough for my husband to cut the cord. Now there was a problem with me. Due to so much Pitocin (a bag and half), my uterus wouldn't contact back. So the doctor had to help pull the plencenta out. Unfortunately it ripped. I was rush off to OR for emergency D & C. I beginning to get really scare. I heard of mothers giving healthy births and the mother not make it. 9 PM As they bring me to recovery room, I notice it is 9. My husband walks in after the nurses leaves. I asked him about the baby. I had gone though so much I couldn't remember what I had. Baby was doing great, and healthy. She is a special nursery to monitor her. I ask him to ask if I could have for a little while. Normally they would not let babies to the recovery room. But after my husband explain to nurses, they agree for 10 minutes. I finally get to really to hold my little miracle. The 10 minutes turned into 30, without asking.
Wednesday MorningMy doctor arrives to update me. He explain why I had the D & C. My iron level was 8 and normal is 14. So I had to stay an extra day to see if my level will go up. The iron level drop due to almost quart of blood lost. After my doctor leaves, the hospital pediatrician arrives. My daughter is healthy. Her little twitching is due to her nerves are not complete. The twitch should quit in a week. |
