Preliminary Information:

With this setup you will be able to adjust your head lights to any height you want. It's 100% adjustable.

A switch will be put in line to control the height.

Materials:

Before starting to do any work, have all of the necessary supplies and tools ready to go. What you will need:

-Wire cutters

-Electrical tape

-Soldering Iron or Butt Connectors

-Off, On momentary, Stay On !2 volt push button switch

-Some extra wire

Step 1

HRCM.jpg (23251 bytes)

Find the headlamp retractor motor control module. It's located underneath the instrument panel, near the LH kick panel. This is only on '93 Probes.

fusebox94.jpg (39102 bytes)

For '94-97 Probes: the control module is located on the back side of the fuse box inside the car, it's a little black connector with 5 wires on it..

HRCM2.jpg (34184 bytes)

For '93 Probes: Disconnect the wire connector by pulling straight down. Don't pull down on the control module itself, you may break the plastic tabs holding it on. There are six wires on the connector. You will need to strip the electrical tape off to reach more of the wires. The one that needs to be cut in half is the solid red wire. This one controls the head lights going up.

blackcon94.jpg (58729 bytes)

For '94-97 Probes: The connector is black and has 5 wires coming from it. Unbolting the fuse box that's inside off the car will made it much easier to see and get to. The wire that needs to be cut in half is red with a blue stripe on it.

Step 2

There is only 4 to 5" of  the solid red wire to play around with on the '93PGT. The cut needs to be in the middle.

Step 3

Now is a good time to find a spot for mounting the switch.

In my project I used a headlamp retractor switch I got from a wrecked Probe. I found this switch works the best for me.  A fog light switch will work too.  **Note! For 93 Probes, you must keep the stock headlamp retractor switch hooked up. You can't use it for this setup. If you unhook it, your headlights will not go up..

Step 4

Figure 2

Now it's time to wire the switch in line with the solid red wire on the '93 Probe (Figure 1). On the '94-97 Probes it's the red with a blue stripe wire (Figure A). Run one wire from the cut end of the connector to the switch then back to the other cut wire (Figure 2 and B). Solder and tape up all the connections. This will interrupt the 12 volts going to the head lamp retractor motor that makes the head lights come up.

The wires to be connected up when using the headlamp retractor switch are: White/red and red wires. The orange and green/yellow wires are for the switch illumination.

The wires to be connected up when using the fog light switch are: Red/black and blue/red wires. The orange and green/yellow wires are for the switch illumination.

That's it....

How it all works

When the head lights are turned on and the sleepy-eye push button is off, your lights will not go up until you push in the sleepy-eye button momentarily. This will give you your desired sleepy-eye height. When the head lights are turned off they will go back down.

Now with the sleepy-eye button turned all the way on, your head lights will work like stock.

Take a look!
