Welcome to the Darker Half

poems of a dark and gloomy nature, and more

I got the inspiration to write this poem after reading "Relicquary"

Tunnels in the dark.
Full of dusty brocade,
broken mirrors, broken dreams, faded murals-
Originally built on hope and need,
with the dreams of glamore, laughter.
As a way to help move into the sunlight.
Now it is full of the dregs of sociaty
those who wanted to leave sociaty,
those who have tired of life in the sun.
Filled with dirt and mud and lost time
Filled with the tired and insane.
The needy, the hoping, the wanting.
Are these tunnels underground
deeply buried -
or are they in my mind

The last poem on this page is a poem I found and rather like. There are more of my poems on the POEMS 1 and 2 pages.

He came to me as if a dream
with promises of eternal happiness.
The promise was simple,
all I had to do was be whole and happy.
It all seemed so easy to do
there was nothing for me to lose and all to gain.
But creatures can turn on you
creatures can take from you
creatures can start to empty you before you are aware,
aware of having all taken from you.
The mind vampyre can suck you dry,
and leave an empty shell.
Sunlight passes through you
darkness fills you
the wind can scatter what little you have left.

I told you a secret
and you told me a lie.
I told you my feelings
and you told me a lie.
I opened my heart and my soul to you,
you only gave me more lies.
I wanted to help heal your wounds,
you only wanted them to fester.
I wanted to be your friend,
you only wanted to tell me lies.
You wanted me to tell my secrets
while you kept yours.
I wanted a friend
instead I got an enemy.
The hate and betrayal I feel
will be with me for the rest of my life.
The only way to stop the festering wound
I now have in my heart and soul
is to get rid of the enemy.
To tell the enemy within and without to leave me be,
that the enemy has caused enough hurt.
It is time for the hurt to stop.

When love and hate collide inside you
all becomes a loud noise.
You cry to yourself and others
for all the pain that is inside you.
You try to spread your pain to the one who hurt you,
but you hate too much for any relief to be gotten from that person.
Your pain is your own and no one can stop it but you
but the noise of pain is too loud to hear the voice of reason.
Time can only heal the pain and the hate,
not the person who hurt you.
You have to care for yourself
You have to love yourself
You have to realize the good in you.
The good part of you that could feel love in the first place.

After a while you learn
The subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
and company doesn't always mean security.
And you begin to learn
that kisses aren't contracts and
presents aren't promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of a woman
not the grief of a child
and you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow's ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way
of falling down in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting
for someone to bring you flowers
And you learn that you really can endure
that you really are strong
and you really do have worth
and you learn and you learn
with every good-bye you learn
