Suggested Guidelines for Charging the Glyph in Assiah

This matter is prioritized in the following manner: The items/methods which I think vital to any charging of the Glyph are listed first, immediately below. Following that, I include things which probably aren't neccesary, but are highly desirable. The last category represents items of nuance, untested/unproved ideas and other embellishments. Please note these are my opinions only and that I offer them on no greater authority than my own experience, learning and, in some cases, blatant intellectual bias. Note also that these remarks apply to physical manipulations on the material plane and need not apply to any astral chargings which are dealt with in another paper: "Suggested Guidelines for Charging the Glyph in Yetzirah".

PRO VITA

0. NONREASSIGNMENT. The attributions of the gyph's points shall not be reassigned, i.e., putting Venus where Jupiter ought to go, etc.

1. CIRCUMAMBULATION. The glyph must be travelled in some manner, either by car, on foot or via bicycle or combination of these. It must be completed within a 24 hour period without significant interuption. Beer and meal-breaks and likely to be required in certain, large glyph-chargings, as those that might be done on bicycle or foot. These could profitably be worked into a routine appropriate to the station of the glyph with which one is working.

2. INCLUSION. All points, including the center must be addressed.

3. INVERSIONIS. The glyph should not, (at this time, anyway) be charged or used during that period between the Winter's Solstice and the Spring's Equinox.

4. ORDERING It must also be drawn completely, preferably in the (sunwise) manner prescribed by the G.'.D.'. Hexagram Ritual or in the balanced fashion that mirrors it.* If not in that order, it might be dealt with as a large circle, being traversed sunwise, as was the case in the original construction rite.

5. VISUALIZATION This must play some role, as this is being constructed in an astral sense foremost.

IN SPIRITU

1. SIMILARITIES. The addressing of each point ought to resemble that of all the other points, but there's certainly room for addressing each point in the spirit of the others. Imagine, say, a mystery play is performed on the grand stage that the glyph represents. There might be seven roles or 7 scenes to the work, each of which are acted out at the appropriate point of the glyph.*

2. TIMELINESS. Some attention ought be given to the Timing of the rite. In my set, I chose to honor the day of the week in the hour of the sun--purely my own bias. One might just as well choose the day of the Sun, beginning in the hours of the appropriate planets at the appropriate points. One might consider completing a charging in the name of a given planet merely upon that planet's day, regrdless of the hour, of simply in an hour that is not utterly inimical.

3. OFFERINGS ought to be made in the physical sense, in the manner of leaving appropriate physical tokens.

4. PREPATORY EXERCISES should be undergone by all concerned as a way of synching their minds and energies to each other's and to the task. The Calyx or Middle Pillar exercise is recommended.

5. TEMPLES. ought to be maintained at each place in whatever physical manner is available and desireable. Temples should always be visualized with their agreed-upon constructions, or personal variations upon them.

6. TASK MANAGEMENT. Practitioners upon the glyph might like to share out as much of the burden associated with the glyph, be it work, finance, etc. Balance the workload and do not allow grandstanding or write ritual parts that might promote such.

PRO BONO

1. Appropriate foods and drinks might be served at the points or en route. (I get visions of a tee-shirt design depicting a drunken sorcerer with the legend "I Drank The Glyph" there emblazoned...) It should not devolve into a drinking-game or a pub-crawl, needless to say.

2. Music might be played. I envision a tape which contains the timing remarks for the Calyx, followed by seven cuts of music, each appropriate to the sphere and, preferably, in order. One person might be in charge of the boom-box, just as one is in charge of driving.

3. A Special Rite might be concocted to be performed in connection with climbing Spencer's Butte (About the only place where one can see the entire Glyph in the sweep of an eye).

4. Incense.

5. Masks might be donned, especially in the manner of acting out a play, if that course is pursued.

Of necessity, this particuar paper must be revised/updated on a regular basis, and is by no means written in stone, as it were.

* There is certainly room here for the use of the so-called Unicursal hexagram, but, as the points are assigned differently, a study needs to be undertaken and a report written to detail the remarks.
