My Trans Am was purchased back in 1985 from the original owners. It had 48,000 original miles on it when I got it and was Chesterfield Brown with gold markings, and had a buckskin colored interior. It was showing its wear for being almost 10 years old, the hood was faded because the original "bird" had been replaced because some kids had scratched it out with rocks. Also I had a local shop install a set of "cheapo" gauges and they went haywire and my car went up in flames. $900.00 damage to the wiring harness and wires. So I knew that I was destined for something other than a "daily driver"
So after I drove it a year (all year) I went to a local car show and got the "bug" to do all this work to it. Bouncing from job to job I finally got a job a the local GM Dealership, now I had a decent job and tech to make my Pontiac Excitement dreams come to reality.
The Dealership I worked at has a body shop there, and I made fast friends with Mike "00" Ehrhardt a painter in the body shop and a Pontiac lover from way back. Mike and I talked about diffrent paint colors for my car and I decided on #87 1996 Pontiac flame Metallic Red with House Of Kolors stripes. Mike massaged the body back to pristine condition, and sprayed on the colors. The engine & trans and interior were left alone because they were like new. I did really well for what it was, but little did I know what was going to happen in the future.
So in 1988/1989 I decided to redo the motor and trans. So the whole front end came off and some parts were sent away to be chromed and the motor came apart. Mike and Marshall Hoover told me that in order to "MAKE THAT PONTIAC RUN LIKE IT SHOULD" I needed "non-smog heads" and a good camshaft. So the search was on for real "PONCHO" parts. I located the heads in South Carolina and bought them sight unseen. When I got them I took them to the local NAPA store and had my buddy Jeff Lewendowski redo them. A local machine shop massaged the block for me and Rich Harlan rebuilt the motor. Man oh Man did that make a diffrence in everything WOW!!!!
Everything went back together changing some things every winter adding stuff and taking stuff off till the winter of 1994.
In 1994 the whole interior came out and I went nuts! Sending the dash to CA to be redone in black, adding Corbeau seats, new carpet, digital dash and adding tons of billet aluminum work to the inside. The summer of 1995 was like nothing I have ever have ever imagined. Kicking major ass at shows and getting a few "best of's" here and there, My best year yet by far.
So in the winter of 1994/1995 I tore the car down again engine came out trans came out front end came off,and more parts went to the "chrome shop". I added a flat firewall (thanks Jeff!)the subframe came out, and went to HOPI to be powdercoated and I rebuilt the suspension. Rick Lotshaw painted the car Dodge Viper Red with red pearl, and I assembled it back together. I showed it a year and did ok but the car needed some "flash".
In 1996 I talked to my buddy John Wargo and he and I came up with the design that is on the car now. Adding some stuff and taking stuff off my Trans Am making it a real show winner. Winning 2nd place at the Chicago World Of Wheels first time up there in a class of 30 I didnt think was too bad.
Winning more shows with the new look I knew things were going to be even better in the future.
In 1998 I went to the Trans Am Nationals in Dayton,Ohio and got 1st place in my class out of about 20 Trans Am's and also winning "Best Of Show" out of 466 Trans Am's (yes I was shocked) I also was shot for a magazine spread for High Performance Pontiac that weekend. Special Thanks to Abraham Bergin of HPP Magazine for doing a great job on the photo layout of my car. Abraham took 17 rolls of film of my car that afternoon/night, many of it in still pics and many with me driving it up and down the road doing "burnouts" and other things.
1999 I added a set of Fatman Fabrications "Tube A-arms" to my Trans Am. Giving it the look I want, and the look that wins shows.
In 2000 and I went on the ISCA circut this year, and will end up either 3rd or 4th in points in my class of the "Late Conservative Hardtop 70-79", and in the top 50 out of the Eastern Division.
In 2000/2001 show season. I had John add some "ghost flames" to the front of the car, added some more billet work (Thanks Jeff!!!), had a 20X20 display built (Thanks Phil & Jon!!!). I went to 5 ISCA shows and did really well. Ending up 3rd overall in the Eastern Division points & 2nd in the International Points. The summer shows have gone well also this year. Winning a "Best Engine", "Best Paint", "Best Street Machine (non tubbed)", "Best Modified", and "5" 1st Place awards.
