PICKING UP THE PEN
Every now and then, someone finds out that I am a "writer." This doesn't seem to mesh with my "real life" occupation, and it strikes people as a little abstract to my normal existence. I have well chronicled my weird tendency to destroy work, and have honestly tried to mend my ways on that front. Still, I am a "closet writer" for the most part.

However, tonight I feel a rare desire to share some of my feelings about writing. To me, this a bold step. There are those of you that I feel are better writers than I am. I have seen your work, and can sense the real emotions that are captured in your writing. Some of you, do not fancy yourselves to be writers, but each one of you has talents that I have noticed and been humbled by. Perhaps this is the ultimate therapy, to describe my "talents" to those I admire. Or maybe its just another step away from what I am now, on the road to what I will eventually become. Whatever it is: it remains here on this "virtual page" for inspection.

Sometimes I pick up a pen, or began typing and an odd thing happens. The mundane life that surrounds me is momentarily blurred by an innate force. I glance down and notice something has been written. I don't feel like the author. I feel like I am the first one reading a new work. I've witnessed this many times, and still am unsure how to describe it.

Yet, there is an odd sense of destiny tied in with any work that seems to take on a life of itself; to carry out a feeling and plan that you might not have been consciously aware of. I don't mean to sound as though I feel somehow Gifted or Special. Actually, just the opposite. It would be the height of arrogance to portray these writings as some sort of Divine Leading that is meant to be a "beacon for future generations". I've long held the belief that God wrote a Book, the Bible, when we follow that, He might decide to do some more writing. Until then, we obviously just need to keep studying His previously published work.

However, the same Creator that created Adam and Eve also created you and I. The same One that wrote the Bible and formed the worlds, put within each of us, an ability to create. That Gift, however, is not generic. It will show itself uniquely with each individual. As you read this passage, please consider the previous statement in the privacy of your thoughts. I believe that you have a very good idea of how the Gift of creativity reveals itself in your life. No one is watching. You do not have to put on a show of modesty, or a facade of ignorance. The Gift is there. Always has been, and all through your life you have sensed its presence. Please never allow that Gift to be put aside.

Life gets busy. We all have bills, trials, troubles, and "real life" situations to deal with. It's easy to leave behind the "little things" like Gifts. But, that is not what God has Divinely planned. If we preform His Will, our Gift of creativity will somehow be used to spread the message of His Love and the beauty of His Mercy. You alone know how your Gift can be used to preform its destiny.

We will stand before God for our actions and I believe we will have to answer for how we used the abilities that He has entrusted with us. Some have greater measure, and to those more is required. Yet, each of us, is required to give our all.

I am sure that I fall way short of that mark. I fail myself and my Creator all too often. And yet, there are times when I take a deep breath and began to write. I glance down and notice something has been written . . . . .
