| Let your light so shine by Cadi Nobles |
| So few of us realize the incredible journey that we are beginning when we make that trip to the altar. “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required:”(Luke 12:48). No one can receive more than the gift of salvation. And we, to whom salvation has been given, has the greatest requirement of all. We are to yield our minds captive to Christ, our hearts bound to His will, and our physical bodies surrendered to His plans. This is the life we begin when we fall to our knees and accept the gift of salvation. It is not a “cut and dried” experience. Not a thirty minute prayer session that changes our eternal destination. It is more, so much more. Jesus Christ came to this earth to die and raise again for our redemption. No human can know the incredible love that Jesus held, yet in all that love and mercy, there was no room for the servant that looked back after putting his hands to the plow. He was “not fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). As we are saved, we are putting our hands to plow. Jesus was crucified once for all our sins. Once that gift has been given to us, responsibilities rest upon our head from that moment on. Every second of everyday belongs to our Father. Every action that we make and every goal that we pursue must be followed only after it has been taken to Him in prayer. Even the little things, like how we look and what we say, are no longer under our jurisdiction. God has provided rules to follow in these matters, so follow those rules we must. Another inevitable part of Christian life is the questions that we meet about our beliefs on a daily basis. Why we do this? And why we won’t do that? These questions are part of the work that we do for Christ. They are, in fact, the reason that we live a separate life. God never has, and never will, encourage His people to “mix in” with the prevailing cultural norm. We are not supposed to act like the world, nor are we supposed to look like them. “Come out and be ye separate” (2Cor. 6:17). We are separate and those that are in the world are going to notice the difference. If God’s Word is correct (and it undoubtably is) the unsaved will take interest in our differences. To answer these questions is not always easy. I may know that I shouldn’t do something, but to explain my reasons for abstaining is another matter. Yet again, we see our directions clearly outlined in the Word of God. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2Tim 2:15). I can save no one. And no one can save me. Jesus’ blood is the only covering for a world filled with sin and sinners. Yet that precious blood is more than enough, and as a Christian and fellow heir with Christ, it is my privilege and duty to show His Love to a “lost and dying world.” “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
