| I have had friends ask my why I believe that the Holy Bible (King James 1611 edition) is so important to an individuals life. After all, they reason, we all have a "moral code" of sorts written on our hearts and embedded in our conscious. And the Bible itself did not appear widely on the scene for hundreds of years after the resurrection of Christ. What makes it so invaluable today? I believe the answer lies in the times that we live in. We live in a world of vast knowledge and shifting political and social views. Hundreds of years ago, a person might go their whole life and not hear the influx of controversial views and opinions that we hear in a week's time. Simple faith was not bombarded at every turn. Christians might hear the story of Christ once in their lives, and that would be enough. But today, we need constant reinforcement. We need strength to stand a test of faith every single day of our lives. So, God's perfect plan, dictates that the Holy Bible is more widely distributed now than it has been in any point in history. Remarkable isn't it? In a society that runs from traditional values, we still have the foundation of core beliefs widely available. Of course, like any pure truth, there are many rip-offs out there. Various "versions" of the Bible now appear on the scene. Promising to "simplify" the Bible, they simply dilute the Truth. Changing God's Word doesn't make it easier to understand, it just changes it. The Bible doesn't require interpretation, it simply requires study. It requires that you put effort into understanding the roadmap that God has established for all of us. It demands that you seek God's purpose for your life, and not rely on a minister or human "Bible" rewriter to decide what that plan is. The decency and order of the Creator demands that the facets in our lives that earn the most attention are the ones that will become stronger. Christians are weak today because we do not strengthen our spiritual lives. While we exercise our bodies, our spiritual man grows weaker. While we focus on our diets in the flesh, our spiritual man is malnourished and underfed. No wonder we cannot stand against the wiles of the Devil! We barely know WHAT we believe, let alone having studied enough to defend it. I believe in today's world, God's Word is essential. Study of the Holy Bible is crucial in a Christian's walk. It can't be neglected for weekly Church services, or outlined daily devotionals. It has to be incorporated in our daily ritual and given preference in our daily activities. If we desire to be strong Christians, we must exercise our spiritual man. Be strong in Christ and it the power of His might! |
