“He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not; He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.” (Job 33:28-29)
To me, one of the best and most wonderful books in the Bible is the book of Job. It contains so many glorious revelations that are just beneath the written words. Hidden, as the treasure of the snow (Job 38:22), only awaiting the spirits command to be understood.
The book of Job, like the entire Bible, can in one or two verses explain a wealth of knowledge concerning the Most High God. One such passage is our text for today, spoken by the young Elihu.
Here we read the “Blueprint” of salvation. Confessing our sins unto God (Rom. 10:9), the judge of both the righteous and wicked (Rom. 2:16, II Tim. 4:1, Heb. 12:23). Believing with our heart in the faithfulness of God (Rom. 10:9, 1 Cor. 1:9, 10:13, 1 Th. 5:24, II Th. 3:3), and one of the most important events in the converting process of a sinner, acknowledging that the life we used to lead, the things we used to do, did not in anyway profit us. We gained nothing by the old man. Rather, that we were deprived of God’s wondrous life and love.
This is a great revelation to the new babe in Christ. Understanding that we are not really saved until we learn to despise, to hate with a perfect hate, the ways of sin. Not despising those that Christ died for, but rather hating the deeds of the flesh (Rom. 8:13, Col. 3:9-10, Gal. 5:19-21), “. . . pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.” (Jude 23) |
