Amazing Grace
by Cadi Nobles
Why do you sing the same song every Sunday,
the young man hastily inquired,
Is it because it's the only one you know,
if it is you could learn some from the choir.

Perhaps you should learn, if you can,
the ones they sometimes sing,
The ones about God's love for man
and how the angels sing.

But Amazing Grace is awfully long,
and you always sing that same old song.
The old man slowly lifted his head,
his face showed care and worry,
Let me tell you a story son,
as he spoke his eyes got blurry.

A long time ago, when I was but a young man,
God showed me His mercy through a young surgeon's hand.
I wasn't a Christian, I didn't know God at all,
But my mother was praying, and God heard her call.

He went on to tell him how he came to the Lord,
How His grace and His mercy through the years had endured.
So, you see son, God's grace is amazing, at least it is to me,
And I believe it would be to you too, if you could only see.

The young man went away sobbing,
embarrassed at what he had said,
How could a song mean so much, he wondered,
as tears he began to shed.

Next Sunday when the church bells rang out loud,
The old man took his place in the large crowd.
Behind the pulpit stood the preacher only,
He asked if anyone would like to give a short testimony.

You could see the satisfaction on the old man's face,
When the young man stood and sang Amazing Grace.
