birkenhead20The Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society is based at Taylor Street Tram Depot on the Birkenhead Heritage Tramway. The line runs from Woodside Ferry terminal, via Shore Road, to the rear of the Old Colonial pub in Taylor Street. Two Hong Kong built, Wirral Council owned, double deck enclosed trams run on the tramway, along with the MTPS-owned original Birkenhead No.20 dating from 1900 (right) (pic by M.Pendleton) The society provide a volunteer driver and a team of conductors to help run the tram service.

    An earlier restoration, a Liverpool horse tram, no.43, is also on display at the depot, and a Birkenhead horse tram restored by the British Horse Tram Enthusiasts, can be found at Woodside Ferry Terminal

As well as the trams, Taylor Street also houses a collection of restored local buses. In addition, items from the Baxter Collection of Cars can now be seen at Taylor St., and don't forget to take a look at the model railway layout while you are there.taylor st
