What is it?
A Tesla coil is a high voltage, high frequency resonant transformer that can generate large sparks from a few inches to several feet in length, depending on its size and power.  It was invented over 100 years ago by Nicola Tesla, a little-known but very significant inventor of the modern age.
What is it for?
Sometimes for research and special effects, Tesla coils are mostly for fun!  It was Tesla's intention to deliver free power to all households without wires in this way, but this meant building a coil of immense scale and ultimately proved to be too expensive, too dangerous, and too impractical.
Tesla colis are dynamic, challenging to build, and there is great satisfaction in getting them to actually work!

This is a description of my own attempt at building Tesla coils, and may be helpful to the Tesla Coil builder/enthusiast, be it beginner or advanced.

A word of caution: These are high energy devices, capable of hundreds of thousands of volts and can be very dangerous, especially if you don't know what you are doing.
Exercise all high voltage safety precautions at all times.
You can be seriously injured or even killed due to carelessness!
DO NOT attempt to build without the proper knowledge of high voltage safety and electrical circuits!

Here are the details and pictures of the 6.5 coil I have built.   An impressive Tesla coil of medium power and definitely the last one I'll ever make
