NOTE RE MERLE DNA TESTING FOR "HIDDEN" MERLES:
GENMARK is no longer performing the Merle DNA test. This test has NOT been proven inaccurate, incorrect or false as some anti-merle breeders are claiming; rather, the submission methods could not be verified by permanent ID (i.e. by microchip or tattoo number as is done with OFA for hips, etc.), thus it was possible for those wishing to call the validity of the test into question to send in DNA from the "wrong" dog and then claim the test was not accurate. Hopefully someone else will offer the test again in the future along with a way of verifying results by way of permanent ID. OF COURSE MERLE HAS BEEN BRED SAFELY AND RESPONSIBLY FOR MANY MANY YEARS WITHOUT THIS TEST AND CAN AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE DONE SO BY RESPONSIBLE CHIHUAHUA BREEDERS.
