Episode 2: No Casulaties
Ames White got out of his car in an abandoned parking lot and walked over to Senator McKinley.
He looked around then met the senator’s accusing stare, “I know that the run in we had with the transgenics didn’t go according to plan but—”
“Didn’t go according to plan?” McKinley asked, “Your people fired at the transgenics in broad daylight, in front of hundreds of cameras! There are already rumours circulating about cults… it’s only a matter of time before they find out, then everything we’ve worked for will be destroyed.”
“You know I’d never let that happen, just trust me!” White asked.
“We did trust you, but you’ve shown us again and again that the transgenic infestation is just too much for you to handle,” McKinely replied, shaking his head, “I’m resigning as senator and moving the familiars to Europe tomorrow, you must come with us. It’s not safe here anymore.”
“I can’t just leave, 452 still knows where my son is and—”
“You need to let go of the past and follow orders, White. It’s just for a little while, we’ll be back soon. Leave the humans and transgenics to fight amongst themselves. We are the future, not them. Fe ‘nos tol.”
“Fe ‘nos tol.” White watched McKinley drive away in his car, he turned to leave too, “I’ll be back, 452. When I return, I won’t be alone…”

“Remember, don’t loose you temper, just stay calm and focused. Don’t say or do anything stupid, and don’t act like…” Max paused to think.
“Like a genetically enhanced killing machine?” Alec offered.
“Exactly.” Max said. She backed up a bit to look at what Alec was wearing. His dark casual suit might be a bit too much… she hoped there were women on this security committee though, Alec would win a few votes from them…
“Even though I like playing dress-Alec-up, we should go now,” he said, checking his watch. “We don’t want to be late, that would make a brilliant impression,” He was as nervous as hell. They were going to fight for the right of all transgenics to live normal lives for the right to—
“Are you nervous?” Max asked interrupting his thoughts.
“Me? Please, I’ve never been nervous a day in my life.”
“Liar.” Max said. She tied her hair back and scrutinized her grey pant suit. At least she and Alec dressed the part, now all they had to do was act it…
“Hey you guys!” 469 said, opening the door, “Mole told me to tell you that the police are here to escort you to City Hall, and he also told me to tell you that if you guys are KIA, that he’ll miss you lots. Oh, and good luck!”
“Uh… thanks, I think.” Alec said. He was still surprised whenever he saw 469, but he didn’t think of Biggs when he saw him anymore...
“Hey, I never got your name?” Max asked the X5.
“469” He answered.
“I thought so, when we get back I want you to have a proper name, so think one up, okay?” Max ordered.
“You can call me what ever you want,” he said grinning at her.
“Give up, 469,” Alec said, smiling, “Trust me, you don’t have a chance with her, she’s high maintenance.”
“Can’t say I didn’t try,” he said shrugging. |
