| The Elvis Touch, Glasgow Birthday Bash and A Celebration of 50 Years "Heartbreak Hotel" |

| Saturday 7th January 2006 - We are all Prestwick-bound in anticipation of yet another Elvis celebration. The hall is set and awaiting the throng. 8pm arrives and the masses form a queue eagerly awaiting entry into the Aviators Suite at Prestwick Airport (famed for being the only place in the UK that Elvis ever visited). Tickets are purchased and people walk towards the double doors to the function suite, and there Elvis awaits his public on giant screen. Buses arrive from Glasgow, Falkirk, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The local people arrive in cars, taxis and trains - anything to get to their destination and Elvis fun ....................... The Elvis Touch, Glasgow has now held this dance in Prestwick Airport for 11 years. The success of this annual event is beyond us, but we believe we are providing a service to loyal Elvis fans throughout Scotland, and as Prestwick is included in Elvis folklore we will keep coming back. Dancers were on the floor almost immediately and throughout the night. The ever popular "Dirty Dancing Competition" was won by Tracey O'Neill from Glasgow and Fred Silvester from Edinburgh, though shots of "we've been robbed" by branch leaders Ally Rose from Aberdeen and Jane Boyce from Glasgow, who took 2nd place after an X-rated performance fell on deaf ears. The door prize of a special commemorative "Heartbreak Hotel 1956-2005" framed picture was won by an Aberdeen fan and the main raffle prize of a silver Elvis Statue was won by Mary Stewart from Falkirk. Many other raffle prizes were available and donated by all other Scottish clubs. We raised our glasses in honour of Elvis's birthday and we acknowledged our sadness this year in the loss of two members of The Elvis Touch who died recently, George Davies and Gerry Cairns. We also lost a local chap who attended all our Prestwick dances, namely Andrew McVey. We had 184 people attending this event and 31 call offs due to 'flu. We raised £104 for charity towards our appeal for Cancer Research and the Marie Curie Foundation. We thank each and every one of you for your continued support and hope to see you all again next year. ALWAYS FOR ELVIS. The Committee of The Elvis Touch, Glasgow |
