The Elvis Touch, Glasgow
Charity Fundraising Event 2006
The Elvis Touch, Glasgow has raised thousands of pounds over its 42 year history in Elvis's name, and this year is no exception.

When the fan club lost Committee Member George Davies in August 2005 and Member Gerry Cairns in September 2005, we invited the families of these much loved characters of our club to nominate two charities on their behalf.  The Davies family nominated the Marie Curie Foundation and the Cairns family nominated Cancer Research UK.  Money had already been collected from various sources but we decided to do various novelty fundraising things to bring a little fun to the club.

Eugene McGowan had been fundraising within his workplace for several months.  Jeff Clark had been doing his acrobatic "Chesay" Russian dance, Buckets were distributed throughout the Prestwick Dance in January to collect change, Joe McCombe donated his cash collection from Lonmay, The Sweet Desperations from Falkirk raised cash for their mime act of "Rubberneckin".

During January and February we held our "I'm An Elvis Fan - Get Me Out Of This - Challenges".  We asked for volunteers to be randomly picked to do a challenge unknown to them.  The challenges carried out were -

1.  Full Body Bandage - Marion Clifford

The finale to our fundraising was our Charity Presentation Elvis Dance on Friday 17th March 2006 in the Queens Club, Glasgow.  Almost 90 people packed into the Queens Club and gave generously to this worthwhile cause.  We would like to thank the Aberdeen and Edinburgh branches for their support and also the people from Leeds who travelled up for this event, and to the Cairns family who were in attendance.

The Elvis Presley Film Society also presented cheques to the value of £60 towards our fundraising on behalf of George and Gerry.

Two representatives from both charities attended the Queens Club for a cheque presentation and were very surprised with the amount raised.  The following is a breakdown of the money raised for both charities -
£949.75
  £845.70
£1361.65
