Rig Support Town of Stone Haven - 89 P.A.
Since the coming of the rifts, the small town of Stone Haven has bordered on doom. Between
the raiders from the rift of Gryphon Lake and the bandits who claimed the town as a hiding
spot, the citizens lived in poverty and despair for years. The town had once been the
support town for a drilling operation which went bankrupt due to the little oil it found.
When the rifts came, the rig had been a hiding place for the few survivors of the small
town which maintained the work force of the rig. The population at the time of the coming
of the rifts was a mere 149 men, women and children. Some 89 years later the town has
grown to about 304 and had become a farming community. It was the farming which attracted
the bandits, farming plus the fact that the local police was totally ill-equiped to handle
the high-tech weaponry and in the best interest of the town, they surrendered. The local
police were allowed to continue to function seeing they were no threat to the bandits.
March 8th 92 P.A. - A half cy-borg drove into the town while the bandits were
fighting the raiders from the rift. Colonel Myles Rommel, a borg from the NGR who was
exploring North America, entered the town and went to the police to register his presence
and befriended the sheriff. He was told of the town's story plight and decided to help
them. When the bandits returned. He convinced them he wished to join them and was
accepted. As he served with the bandits, he learned more about the raiders and also
secretly supplied the town's police with high-tech weaponry. It took him almost 8 months
to supply them and form the plan which would change the town forever.
December 1st 92 P.A. - The bandits were celebrating their recent battle victory
over a Coalition patrol with lots of poisoned corn alcohol when the 15 men and women of
the town police under the direction of Colonel Rommel went into action. They waited till
the bandits were well into thier drinking before they attacked. 31 of the bandits began
suffering the effects of the poison, the other 18 were on duty when the police strike team
went into action. The Night of Knives as it became to be called lasted only 39 minutes.
When it was over, all 49 of the bandits were dead as well as 6 of the town's police force.
The citizens of the town awoke to see the bodies of the bandits being burned and the
fallen police being buried with full honor.
Colonel Rommel was nominated to lead the town's council by the vote of the town council
itself but declined. He instead nominated Sheriff Allen Lloyd and said that if he was
elected, he would serve as the town's sheriff.
February 19th 93 P.A. - The town council decided to sell the captured equipment of
the bandits on the black market. Despite the damage of the bots, they managed to receive
quite a large sum of money which the town used on a chance endeavour. In May 93 P.A., a
delegation went to Tolkeen and brought back a group of engineers and geologists and the
old drilling site was refitted and surveyed.
August 93 P.A. - After 97 years after the rig was closed due to running dry, the
rig struck a previously undetected pool.
September 93 P.A. - A delegation of the town's council went to Tolkeen and
negotiated a trade agreement with the rulers of Tolkeen. Oil for resources, materials,
food and technology.
It did not take long before the town was rebuilt and it was fortified with the walls
expanded to encompass the rig and the refinery. Tthe town grew in population, word was
spreading to the small enclaves of humanity that a new light in the darkness was shining.
In a matter of months, the town grew in size from a mere 299 to almost 9,973 and now
covers an area of 6.9 square miles. The farming suppliments the local food stores and the
farming has gone from corn to corn and cattle with a large ranch just outside the city.
The town was declare an independant city state by Tolkeen who they maintained trade
agreements with for corn and beef. With help from Tolkeen, the rift at Gryphon Lake was
permenantly sealed thus ending the raids from the raiders. The three nearest hamlets of
humanity (Diggs Town, Clover Pass and Canon) had asked for assistance from Stone Haven and
help was given on the condition that the towns submitted to the rule of the Council at
Stone Haven. Each town would be represented at all meetings by a town representative. This
relationship worked and has proven prosperous to all raising the population of the
Province of New Caledona to 9,973.
April 19th 95 P.A. - Lured by the rumour of a large gold reserve received from the
proceeds of the oil trade, the town of Stone Haven came under seige by a large mercenary
group numbering almost 12,000. The seige lasted nearly 2 weeks before the mercenaries were
finally defeated due to a daring plan by Colonel Rommel. He formed a group of hand picked
men and women as an elite fighting unit he called the Gryphons Claw. 150 men and women
armed to the teeth ready to die for the good of the town was unleashed upon the
mercenaries. They attacked with power armour and faught thier way to their targets, the
mercenaries ammunition and weapons supply, their food supply and their leadership. The
attack worked in destroying thier supplies as well as killing off the merc general.
Governor Lloyd addressed the mercenaries stating that suicide attacks would continue until
all town citizens were dead and the last would die detonating the town's new Tomorok
Fission Power Plant. Faced with this new reality, the mercenaries left the Providence of
New Caledona. The town was saved due to the brave sacrifice of 150 men and women. Since
that day, Colonel Rommel commissioned the Gryphons Claw Mercenaries to be the elite
defenders of the Province and those who live within.
March 30th 96 P.A. - Plans were purchased through Tolkeen for the construction of
an underground base from a trans-dimensional group who called themselves the Robotech
Expeditionary Force. The plans were purchased for 1,500,000 gallons in crude and
construction began July 9th 96 P.A. when Governor Lloyd did the ceremonial ground
breaking. It took the construction crews nearly 14 months before they were finished and on
September 12th 97 P.A. the underground base was officially opened. The old military
compound remained in use as a training facility for the militia.
November 19th 96 P.A. - A Coalition sympathizer was uncovered in the ranks of the
local malitia sending information about the town's military power and oil wealth. He was
tried and imprisoned to keep him silent.
December 24th 96 P.A. - A Coalition recon patrol was spotted 35 miles South of the
New Caledona border and two days later, a pair of skycycles were intercepted and followed
to within 14 miles of Stone Haven before they were ordered to turn back.
December 31st 96 P.A. - A delegation from the Coalition arrive in Stone Haven to
deliver a formal invitation to New Caledona to join the Coalition. Public outcry against
this was rampant and after long decussion, Governor Lloyd and Colonel Rommel brought to
the Province Assembly the issue of the Coalition. Colonel Rommel spoke from his own
knowledge of the Coalition and thier possible goals and their interests with the city
state. The Province Assembly voted 11 to 2 that outside help must be seeked to balance the
Coalition threat.
Their request for help was denied by Tolkeen who was itself preparing for possible
hostilities with the Coalition. It seemed that the fledgling city state would have to give
in and become part of the Coalition when help came from a most unusual source and a deal
was negotiated.
January 13th 97 P.A. - With only 2 weeks left before the offer from the Coalition
expire, a rift opened 1 mile outside the city of Stone Haven. From it a Dratoulian
delegation emerged and with them came a construction team and a small group of Dratoul
Priests.
The Temple of Bravthin's construction started almost immediately and by the time the two
weeks had passed, the structure frame was complete and it was over half way to being
finished.
January 27th 97 P.A. - The Coalition delegates reluctantly took the refusal of the
Province and told them that 'those who stand against the Coalition and give safe haven to
the enemies of humanity would fall to the Coalition'.
February 20th 97 P.A. - The Dratoulian temple is completed and the installation of
the Nexus Gate is finished. The Province Assembly witnessed the first arrival of
Dratoulian ground troops, equipment and supplies that would help them against the
Coalition. The population of Stone Haven was at first apprehensive about the foreign/alien
troops within thier city, but popular opinion quickly changed and the people warmed upto
the Drats who basically kept to themselves and stayed out of local affairs unless called
in. Contact with the Coalition has been limited to random sightings of lone vehicles which
leave the borders of New Caledona without incident.
April 3rd 97 P.A. - A sizable force of Coalition forces is seen moving West, 12
miles from the border.
April 8th 97 P.A. - A Coalition expeditionary party raids a small hamlet 3 miles
from the farming village of Clover Pass. A call for help was sent but by the time help
arrived. The hamlet had been burnt to the ground, all humans had been taken away and all
non-humans were executed.
April 3rd 98 P.A. - After a year of minor skirmishes with the Coalition. A cease fire had been called into affect as the combined forces of the Dratoul and defenders of Stone Haven have continually held back the determined Coalition from over-running the province. The truce is uneasy but has remained in affect for nearly 2 months. During this time, the Dratoul have increased thier presence in Stone Haven and have constructed another temply by the Gryphon Lake Nexus and have reopened it for thier own use as part of the treaty between Stone Haven and the Dratoul.
