The pain in her ankle and leg were almost unbearable, but she needed to find Riddick so they could get the hell out of there. Who knew how many unknown security defenses Wei had in this place? Or if anyone had contacted the cops? "In here." Was all she heard when she got to what was left of Wei's study. She saw him in the back of the room, his back to the door. The lightning from the storm illuminated the room briefly making Jack gag. The walls were splattered with dark crimson stains. Blood. And suddenly it hit Jack, he'd killed Wei. Finally, when she was close enough to touch him, Riddick turned his silvery gaze towards hers. Jack managed a smile as she took his still bloody hand in hers and lightly pulled at his arm. Riddick got the hint and moved from the window slowly. Riddick slowly got his wits about him as they he followed Jack down the back stairwell of the Wei mansion. "Where's Stoneham?" came Riddick's gravely baritone suddenly causing Jack to flinch. Riddick chuckled at her reaction and squeezed her hand in reassurance. "I blew his head off." Jack said nonchalantly causing Riddick to laugh out loud. "It's nice to see you two alive and well." The foreign voice reverberated from the foot of the stairs. In one fluid movement Riddick sprung into action pulling his shiv out of the waistband of his pants and pushing Jack behind him. He was surprised to see Fourcade at the foot of the stairs his gun drawn. "Move." Riddick ground out between clenched teeth. Fourcade nodded and put his gun in its holster. Seconds ticked by as the men continued their stare down. Jack squeezed out from behind Riddick and made her way down the stairs. Fourcade put his hand on Jack’s shoulder as she passed him causing Riddick to flinch. Jack stared at Fourcade until he finally said, "Thank you." Looking up at Riddick’s still form he added, "Both of you." Jack nodded once at him and then at Riddick making finally feel secure enough to go down the stairs and out the door. Title: Hemorrhage Author: Priscilla Chapter 14: What's It Gonna Be? They stood at the docking bay, facing the ship that was supposed to take Riddick wherever he was going. Jack had helped him pack, all the while imagining the speech he'd give her explaining why once again he was shutting her out and leaving her behind. "It's a long trip to Terra Luna." Riddick's gravely voice broke through the silence that had developed around them as thick and heavy as a cloud. Jack's head snapped up, searching his face for any sign of what he'd meant by that seemingly innocent comment. Of course, Riddick did no such thing. His face was as hard as rock and as always his goggles hid whatever truth could be found in his silver orbs. "Yep." She said suddenly finding the laces of her combat boots very interesting. She silently handed him the bag she'd been carrying and began to turn her back to him before he began his hurtful goodbye. "I'll need a co-pilot." He said staring down at his own boots. Jack's heart began to thump wildly in her chest as she waited for him to continue. "What do you say kid? Maybe this time, we'll get things right." Jack let the tears fall freely from her eyes and onto his shirt as she jumped in his arms. The End (c) Copyright Priscilla Asencio, "Hemorrhage" Chapters 1-13. 2002. |
