| Title: Fuel Author: Priscilla Chapter 13 "Let go of me Dom." Leon said. He looked so distraught, helpless even, that Dom and Vince sort of looked at each other not really sure if they should comply with his request. "I said get the fuck off me!" Leon yelled shoving Dominic and Vince away from him. He needed time to think, time to wrap his mind around what had just happened. God he was so stupid, he was like cursed to never have anyone who really cared about him. The guys on the team had women throwing themselves at their feet, so what the hell was wrong with him? Even Jesse had his throngs of groupies. Dom helped get Mia and Letty into the back seat of the Supra. "Lets get the fuck outta here." He said, slowly getting behind the driver's seat and heading for home. Once the girls were settled into their own beds, Dom and Jesse drove to the village to find a doctor. Leon paced back and forth in his room, feeling like a caged animal. He stopped suddenly when he saw something on his dresser. It was a picture Mia had taken of he and Evelyn at the barbeque a couple of weeks ago. He slowly stared at the picture; they were smiling and happy to be in each other's arms. So in love, or so he'd thought at the time. It had all been a lie, Leon thought angrily before picking up the picture frame and throwing it against the wall. The glass smashing into a million tiny little pieces. He walked out of the room, only stopping to let Brian and Vince know he was leaving and wouldn't be back for a couple of hours. They could call his cell phone if they needed him. *************************** "What can I help you with gentlemen?" The old doctor asked, sitting up from his desk. Dominic didn't know how to explain, so Jesse opted to speak for him. "Well we need a doctor for our friends, it seems they were hurt by some guys and we sorta need to make sure that they're all right." The doctor was about to decline, when Dom added his two cents. "We really need your help doc. These women are my family, one my sister and the other my....girlfriend. I need to make sure that they'll be ok. I promise no harm will come to you and that the pay will be good as long you are discreet and help them get better." He said, chocolate brown eyes locked onto the old doctor's hazel ones. The old man nodded his head and picked up his bag with all his tools. "Take me to your friends, I'll do what I can." He said, following Dom and Jesse to the car. ****************************** Leon had blindly walked the streets for a couple of hours, wanting to clear his head. It didn't work. Maybe that's why he found himself sitting in a church right now. He remembered his mother telling him how it wasn't only a place of worship, but a place to look for guidance and inner peace. He'd thought it was complete bullshit at the time, but what did he know? He'd never been overly religious to begin with. "Are you all right my son?" A voice from behind him asked softly. Leon turned around quickly, the place had been deserted when he'd walked in, but maybe he'd been so wrapped up in his own thoughts to notice anyone else. "Ahh, not really padre." "If you wish to speak of your troubles, I will listen." Leon nodded his head as the priest sat next to him and waited patiently for him to start. "There was this woman. She was beautiful and kind and I fell instantly in love with her. But she betrayed me father. Left me for a man that beats her and controls every aspect of her life. Why would she do that?" "Well there maybe a lot of reasons, she could be afraid of this man. For all you know she could be protecting you." Leon looked at the priest like he was crazy. "What do you mean?" "I mean maybe you should look past her actions and look inside her soul. You know this woman because you loved this woman. Now ask yourself, is this something she would do on her own? Or could someone else be to blame?" Leon nodded his head in understanding. There's no way Evelyn had willingly gone back to Frank. He wasn't sure of it, but maybe he had been too quick to jump to conclusions. "Thanks for your help padre." He said before getting up and heading home. ************************ Dom paced back and forth outside the room where Mia and Letty where being checked out. The doctor had been in there over an hour and hadn't told him or any of the other men waiting outside the room anything. He was worried; what if something was done to them other than the cuts and bruises that marred their bodies? Something he couldn't see? All the men stood up when the doctor finally emerged from the room. He closed the door slowly and made his way to them with a grim expression. "As far as I can tell, there is nothing wrong with them except a concussion for the young woman with the black hair and a couple pf bruises for the other. But as I told you earlier, Mr. Torreto, I can't be sure that they are completely all right until I thoroughly check them at the clinic." The doctor explained. He didn't feel comfortable telling Dominic what he suspected was done to the girls until he had solid proof. "Do you think something else was done to them? Something more serious than a couple of slaps?" Brian asked, his brows furrowed together in confusion. What was the doctor so nervous about? "Perhaps, but I can't be sure until proper tests are run." The doctor replied politely. Dominic shook his head. "Alright, we'll bring them to your clinic tomorrow around 6 p.m." He said before thanking the doctor and showing him out. ********************** Evelyn had been pacing for almost three hours trying to come up with a way to get to Leon. She knew he was hurting right now, and nothing made her ache more than knowing his pain was her fault. What could she have done? Frank would of killed Mia and Letty or herself if she hadn't complied with his wishes. Besides, he might still let her go. Yeah, right. She stopped pacing when Tony unlocked her door to bring her food. "Got your food Evelyn." He said, placing the tray on a small wooden table he'd placed in the room earlier. "Tony, I need you to do me a favor." She said grabbing the man's shoulders. Tony stared at her surprised and the shook his head. "Forget it. You know I can't and you know why." He said, still shaking his head at her. "You told me you hated my husband, and would do anything to see him go down. Prove it." She said looking into his eyes. "What do you have in mind?" Tony asked. Evelyn let out a sigh of relief before taking a folded piece of paper from her bra and handing it to Tony. “I need you to get that to Leon. He needs to know why I’m doing this.” She said, smiling when Tony nodded his head. He placed the small note into his pant’s pocket. “I’ll try to get it done tonight. Just don’t ever say I never did anything for ya.” He said before closing and locking her again. **************************** When Leon made it to the house, everything was quiet. Thinking maybe everyone was asleep, he closed the door as quietly as possible, making the lightest movements. He was hungry so he went into the kitchen. Suddenly, he was banged up against the far wall, a strong forearm pressing into his throat. "Dom it's cool, it's Leon." Jesse said coming in from the back. Dominic backed off, leaving Leon chocking on his own saliva. "What the fuck was that Dominic!?" Leon asked when he managed to catch his breath. Dominic shook his head in dismissal to his question. "Never mind that. Where the fuck were you?" He growled. "Out. Anyway, I'm here now." "Nice of you to grace us with your presence." Vince said, crossing his arms over his chest. "I'm not in the mood to deal with your shit right now Vince, back off." Vince made a move to go up to Leon but Dom got in his way. "Cut the bullshit. We got other problems. Like where the fuck are we going to get so much money?" "What about the cash we have from the heists?" Vince asked, moving away from Leon. "Nah, that money's for us in case things get harder than they already are." Brian added in. "Damn, 45 grand. To get that kind of money we're gonna have to rob a bank or something." Jesse said, thinking out loud. Leon and Dom shot each other a look as the same thought formed in their head. "That ain't such a bad idea." Title: Fuel Author: Priscilla Chapter 14 Weeks flew by in a flurry of planning and then of course acting on those plans. Using part of the money they'd brought with them from L.A. the team began making arrangements with old alliances in L.A. Leon had received Evelyn's note; he knew of the sacrifice she had made for him and his friends and he vowed to get her back, but not now. Today, they were scheduled to give Frank his money, or so he thought. Edwin and some of his contacts came through with their side of the deal, making counterfeit money real looking enough to not alarm any possible form of the detection. Real money burns either black of blue, depending on where it's made. The money Frank was supposed to receive tonight burned red because of the ink it was printed with. Of course, Frank would not burn one cent of his precious money if he still owed the Trans. The rest of the plan was that once the money had been handed over to Frank, Jesse would activate the homing beacon through remote control. Afterwards using what Leon and Jesse both called a Trace-Zapper would allow them to alert the authorities in wherever part of the country Frank Sloan went. They would be free, but first everything had to go well tonight. ***************** "Shouldn't they be here by now?" Jesse asked impatiently into the walkie-talkie from the passenger's seat of the Jetta. Just then headlights could be seen up ahead, coming in their direction. Leon's heart thumped loudly in his chest. This was it; he was getting Evie back tonight or die trying. Brian reached over and patted him on the shoulder, showing his understanding of how the man was feeling. He'd felt the same way when Mia had left him on that highway with Vince, like his heart was pouring out his ears. The group stepped out of their cars slowly following suit to Frank's men. As always the man himself was the last to arrive, always wanting to make an entrance. He held Evelyn's hand painfully; she was cringing from the pain. Leon's grip tightened on the butt of his gun. Soon negotiations started. "Where's my money Dominic?" Frank asked amusedly. Dom retrieved two duffel bags from the trunk of his car and threw it on the ground in front of two of Frank's no-neck thugs. The men picked up the bags and brought them into the back seat of the Benz with tinted windows. About two minutes later one of the men came out of the car and whispered something incoherent to Frank, who nodded. The team held their breath. "I'm glad you didn't try to go against me on this Dominic, it wouldn't have worked out for you anyway." Leon stepped forward; aggravated that Dominic had still not mentioned Evelyn on their negotiations. Dominic stepped in front of him, putting a hand to his chest. "What the fuck are you doin'?" He whispered in a harsh tone. Leon stepped around him muttering, "I know what I'm doing." "You have your money, now give me Evelyn." He said, blatantly putting his hand on his gun. Frank seemed more amused with Leon than he did with Dominic. He smiled and shrugged his shoulders as if to say "sure, why not". He pushed Evelyn in the other man's direction almost causing her to fall. Evelyn knew he was planning something or else he wouldn't of given her up so quickly. When she was almost halfway to Leon, Frank lifted his gun arm. "Evelyn duck!" Leon yelled frantically as the other man aimed and fired. Evelyn threw herself onto the dusty earth, feeling a burning sensation running up her arm. The 'meeting' erupted in a series of gunshots, everyone trying to protect themselves and their friends at the same time. Leon ducked close to Evelyn, checking her pulse. "Hey you alright darlin', come on open to beautiful eyes for me." Leon urged. He knew they would have to move soon they were in the open. Evelyn started to cough and then her eyes opened. Leon felt his heart swell thank God she was ok. They moved to a darkened space where Evelyn would be same while he looked for Frank. Just as Leon was looking over Evie's wounds, he felt the pressing sensation of cold hard steel against the back of his head. "Pick up you gun boy. At least you'll die like a man." Frank taunted as Leon slowly bent down to retrieve his gun. While he was getting up Leon managed to elbow Frank in the abdomen making the other man double over in agony. Leon tackled Frank to the ground causing a wrestling match to ensue. Managing to roll the other man over, Leon got a few good punches in. Frank got him in the jaw causing Leon to tumble backwards onto his back. Frank did waste time in cracking Leon's jaw with his powerful punches. Just as Leon was about to give up, Frank lifted his gun and aimed. Leon heard the shot, but felt no pain, just a grunt as Frank's lifeless body fell on top of his. Looking up he locked eyes with Evelyn's hazel gaze and smiled. She was truly a sight for sore eyes. So in the end all the planning about the counterfeit money had been for nothing, but at least they were free of Frank Sloan. Everyone piled into their cars and drove off as fast as they could, leaving nothing behind that could tie them to the massacre. Leon pressed Evelyn's head closer to his chest as they watched Letty and Dominic dance. They looked so happy as husband and wife. Who knew Letty would look so good in a dress? Evelyn pulled away from his chest and grabbed his hands. "Let's dance." She pleaded, begging with her eyes. Leon shook his head smiling. "I don't dance." He said, barely able to hold back his grin as Evelyn folded her arms across her chest and snickered. He stood up and grabbed her by the hand, pulling her towards the dance floor. "But for you, I think I can make an exception." He said as Evelyn's smile spread from ear to ear as they swayed to the beat of the music. For the first time he felt he had someone who wanted him because of him. Evelyn seemed to be the woman of his dreams, but was he ready for marriage? He'd didn't know, but they'd figure it out together. The End (c) Priscilla Asencio, "Fuel" Chapters 1-16, 2002. |
