Chapter 13
They had ALL be famished. There were no leftovers to take up space in the crowded fridge so that was good. Leon and V. actually insisted on cleaning up. That had been a friggin miracle! When they finished they came back to chill with the rest of the team in the backyard.
"I'm confused. Letty, you never really said what happened after Blondie busted you." Leon smirked at Bryan from his perch on top of the picnic table.
"I've been kinda wondering that myself. I just didn't want to rush you." Dom sat on the end of Letty's lounge chair with her bare feet in his lap.
Bryan and Mia cuddled in the lounger next to them. "Try to stay calm, Bro. Some of this you're not gonna like." Bryan really hoped Dom wouldn't freak. He doubted seriously if Letty could handle any more stress.
Letty sighed. Why not start big? "I turned states evidence in exchange for immunity for all of you..."
"Shit! Letty, you did what?" Dom felt sick. She was going straight to prison.
"Dom just shut the fuck up and listen. I cooperated with the feds and gave them the names they needed in order to make the case. We were just really small fish, Dom. They needed to get to the sharks. A whole bunch of other shit was connected to it all and it was a lot bigger than the insurance fraud we had our hands in. The feds figured it would look better with Great Whites on the line rather than guppies, so I did it. I got a really good bunch of lawyers and turned over every name and detail I had."
"Letty, you didn't' know shit. How..." Dom looked at her astonished at what he was hearing.
"I have ears, Dom. I listened and kept my mouth shut. I thought if ever you got into trouble, I could help you. Anyway, after they got what they wanted and knew they could use it, they didn't need us anymore. I just had to make restitution for the shit we stole and that was that." Letty was getting sleepy.
"Letty? How did you make restitution for 6 million dollars? Dom tried to prepare himself for the worst.
Mia reached over Bryan to pat Letty's arm encouragingly. "Don't stop now, Leticia. Might as well tell them everything."
Letty told them what happened from beginning to end. The night had grown dark around them and they sat bathed in light coming from inside the house. Dom still sat at her feet. He had thrown his head back to gaze up at the night sky. There were so many stars. Millions and millions.
"How much did you say again, Letty?" Dom wasn't sure he heard her right.
"Eleven million. There's five left. It was his way of making it up to my mom. He wouldn't have anything to do with her after she ran off with my dad and by the time he had forgiven her ...it was too late, my folks had already died in the accident. Being his only grandchild, he left it all to me. When my name was mention on the news and in the papers a horde of legal types showed up and took over. After that, I moved in with Mia and..."
"Waited." Dom ran a finger over the dome of her right ankle.
"And waited. I didn't know what to do about the money so its still sitting in the bank. Mia went back to school and I started manning the lunch counter."
Vince chimed in. " You're sitting on five million bucks and working the fucking lunch counter? You sure you didn't hit your head when you flipped that Honda?"
Dom sighed in the dark. A comfortable cool breeze blew in from the ocean. "So it's all over? Just like that? We can all go home?"
"Not exactly." Mia said quietly. Bryan pulled her closer wanting to shield her, just in case.
"What?" Dom knew the bad news he had braced for was coming. Letty took his hand and held it.
"Dom, you have to testify. That was the only condition."
"And if I don't?" He looked at Letty in the dark.
"If you don't, Dom, you can't come home. They'll issue warrants for you and..." Letty broke down.
Shit! Letty never cried. Dom didn't know what to do. He wanted to go home. Get back in the garage, sleep under the same roof he had slept under as a child. He wanted to go home but he didn't want to be anywhere near a courtroom. Shit! Fuckin Shit!

Chapter 14
Mia jumped to Letty's rescue pushing Dom "The dumbshit" Toretto out of the way.
"Asshole! You stupid shit! See what you did!" Letty opened the floodgates and Mia tried to comfort her and smack the hell out of Dom at the same time.
"Its been a hell of a day, Letty, come on and I'll help you unpack." Mia led Letty into the house. The air conditioner hummed to life and freshly cooled air blew throughout the interior. Mia knew Letty's things would be in Dom's room. She also knew that once Letty calmed down she was gonna be pissed. Dom would probably be sleeping on the couch tonight.
Letty hated to cry, especially in front of others. It didn't jibe with the badass image she tried to maintain. Mia had seen so many changes in Letty over the last 6 months, mostly due to her pregnancy but also partially due to the fact that she abandoned by Dom. Letty didn't know that she knew but she had heard her crying herself to sleep at night.
Letty also wouldn't like to know that Mia knew that she slept with one of Dom's dirty beaters, probably finding comfort in his scent. Dom had been kind of a slob so when Letty moved in she had cleaned up his room, done all his laundry, put it away and made herself at home. Waiting for him.
At first things looked really bad. The cops were all over everything. Letty had headed straight for Mia after leaving the hospital not knowing that Bryan was there at the house too. The cops had arrived soon after. The shit hit the fan when one cop got a little too rough trying to cuff Letty. After all she had a dislocated shoulder! Mia had screamed at the pig that Letty was pregnant and if he hurt her, She, Mia would kill him. She had never threatened anyone in her life but she had damn well meant it. When Bryan had heard her scream, he had sprung into action and dragged the guy off Letty. He ended up getting busted himself. Mia knew then that she loved him.
The lawyers had shown up the next day after Letty's pictures were all over the news. Things gradually began to settle down. Bryan turned in his badge and gun and became a Private Investigator. He moved in soon after and they got married at the courthouse with Letty as their only witness. Poor Letty had been sick as a dog and still waiting for Dom.
Mia knew Letty had been too scared to call him. She was still afraid the deal would fall through and she knew as well as everyone that Dom wouldn't go back to prison. Letty couldn't risk Dom's freedom. It meant too much to him. So with nothing else to do, she had waited 6 whole, long, life-altering months.
