Blog: "Antics, Screw Ups and Occasional Celebrations"

Over the past few months I've done some serious research on the Web, looking for sites where I can post my URL address and make announcements about the release of Picking Up the Pace. It was very time consuming and an incredible pain in the butt at times. I wish I'd had a book with a bunch of listings so I could just plaster the web with my links. So, since I've already done a lot of the work, let me spare you some time. I only ask that you don't try to sell this information off, as the whole point is to provide free advice. As I find more sites, I'll add them to the list. If I miss any, please let me know and I'll include them. Thanks.
And don't let my low counter number fool you. On Dec. 4 it was at 46. As of Dec. 14, it was 141. That's about 9-10 extra unique clicks per day, and coincides with my obsessive joining of webrings and listing my book on various sites.

Free places to post your URL and/or create a book page
1. www.Published.com -- this site allows authors to post a short description of their book, post the book's cover, and add a hyperlink to the book's retail page online. It's free for six months, after which it will simply be removed.
2. www.Author-Network.com -- they'll let you post a link to your site.
3. www.sfbookcase.com/addbook.asp -- technically, this is a site mainly for horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and mystery books. But they'll let anybody sign up so long as they have a book out.
4. www.mindlikewater.com/submitebook.html -- here you can post your title, a brief description, and the book's URL or sales URL as a hyperlink.
5. http://bitbooks.com/guide/cgi-bin/add.cgi -- this site is fiction genre specific and let's you add your book's website in one of the genres.
6. www.publishing-industry.net/add.cgi -- you can add your book's URL and keywords for readers to search for it.
7. www.bookzen.com -- you can create an entire book page here. You're able to add reviews, a 250 word description, ordering information and hyperlinks, and contact info. Just click on "add your book."
8. www.smotu.org/anncmnt/anentry.cfm -- The Writer's Portal lets you list your new book in the "announcements" section by submitting a press release, a link to the book's URL and a book cover graphic.
9. www.literaryleaps.com/submitlink.cfm -- here you can post your book's URL, a description, and keywords for their book search engine.
10. www.ebooksnbytes.com/cgi-bin/search/hyperseek.cgi -- you pick a category, then click "submit site." You can write up to 500 words for your description and use up to 20 keywords.
11. www.freelancewriting.com/newssyndicator.html -- lets you announce news about getting a book published, launching your website, etc.
12. www.writersmanual.com/submit.shtml -- you can fill out a whole interview online at this site and they'll post it. Scroll down and hit the "author interview" link in the center of the page. You'll be prompted to sign in or register. Fill out all the registration information (you get to post your book, your site URL, a description, etc.). Then you can click on "interview." It took me about 45 minutes to complete.

I'd also highly recommend that you visit www.webring.com and sign up for free. They have 46,800 rings and surely you can find a few you'd like to add your site to. You have to paste some html stuff on your site so that the "navigator code" works properly but they'll give you instructions for that. Even I managed it, and I'm a computer moron. There's a directory of categories on the home page, and if you look under "Cultures & Community" and click on the subcategory "lesbians," you'll find a few rings that attract a *lot* of traffic. I'd recommend adding your site to some of those rings as a minimum (at least for all the lesbian writers viewing this page).

Places where you can get your book reviewed or be interviewed
1. www.justaboutwrite.com -- you can get your book reviewed by scrolling down about half-way and clicking on the "Click here to go to the Review Page" link. On the right-hand side will be bio- and contact info for each individual reviewer, which you can contact with a review query. This site also features original poetry and articles on writing and editing.
2. www.coffeetimeromance.com -- The Coffee Time Romance staff is pretty quick about getting back to you and they'll review your book. If your book is reviewed, they may even interview you.
3. www.likesbooks.com -- All About Romance. Click on the "reviews" link on the top toolbar. At the bottom you'll find a "want your book reviewed?" link which will give you plenty of instructions.
4. www.goldenpillarpublishing.com/links.html -- they don't do their own reviews, but they have five gazillion links to book reviewers. In fact, this is where I found a lot of my information and it's well worth checking out. They have tons of writer resources.

Please e-mail me links to more great sites.
