From: b2aquare@bellsouth.net posted on genforum 9/26/00 http://genforum.genealogy.com/dupree/messages/490.html Is your John DuPree related to Drury Deupree who moved to Oglethorpe County around 1800 from Virginia via Laurens County, S.C.? My GGGrandfather Charles Bacon married Drury's daughter, Sarah Deupree, in Jackson County on October 22, 1822. Drury's gravestone lists a son John but have found no further mention of him or several of his siblings who are also listed. From: b2aquare@bellsouth.net posted on genforum 9/19/00 http://genforum.genealogy.com/dupree/messages/490.html Below is the inscription on the tombstone of Drury and Nancy Deupree, which lists the names of the children. It is more likely that the correct date for the moving of the remains is 1849. The graves are in the same cemetery as that of his brother Daniel and wife Sarah on a farm which was probably owned by Daniel who died in 1848. Recently I viewed the tombsstone and it has eroded to the point of being illegible. "Sacred to the memory of DRURY DEUPREE who departed this life in the year 1812 and NANCY his wife who followed him 1821 Both believed in Lord Jesus Christ of the Bapti st persuasion and died as they lived with unabated confidence. The following are the names of their children: Polly, John, Midian, Elizabeth, Lewis J., Nancy, Susie, Cassay, SARAH, Drury, and Daniel. Remains being taken up from where they were first deposited and removed here in the year 1819 by his son, Lewis J. Deupree." (History of Oglethorpe County, Florrie Smith, p. 65-66.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
