In 1995 Betty and Lewis Newsome bought their dream farm in King and Queen Co Virginia. Both Virginia natives and Engineers for the Virginia Department of Transportation, they were looking for the perfect place for "retirement". Until that "time" comes for retirement, Betty and Lewis enjoy the company and pleasure that horses and dogs bring to their lives. 2000 brought many changes to Lynchpin Knoll Farm. Lewis' retirement turned into going back to work, still working with VDOT, but as a Consultant.

In 1999 we discovered Izzey, our senior Appaloosa Stallion (Ques Quilt), had skin cancer. We did something we had never done before, bred more than 3 mares. Since we didn't not know what Izzey's future held, we decided to breed 3 mares to him, and at the same time, we bred 2 mares to one of our Junior Stallions, FM's Major (River). Izzey went through 3 sessions of chemo therapy, and had the cancer removed surgically in the spring of 2000. Izzey is now cancer free, and Lynchpin Knoll had the most beautiful foal crop we have ever had.

2000 was also an exciting year in the show ring as well for all THREE of the Appaloosa stallions at Lynchpin Knoll Farm. Doug Minton, showed all three of the boys to perfection, with the three of them finishing 1, 2 and 3 in the Open reining class at the Shenandoah Blue Ridge LEE JACKSON CLASSIC show Sept 23-24, 2000. Doug also showed CR Stock Crash and FM's Major to a 1, 2 finish at the NC Appaloosa Show in Raleigh NC, Oct. 13, 2000.

A huge debt is owed to Doug Minton, of Powhatan VA for making such a huge effort to make Appaloosa Reining a REAL event in VA and NC; and at LYNCHPIN KNOLL FARM, WHERE COLOR REINS.

At the close of 2000, Lynchpin Knoll Farm is in mourning for owner and founder Lewis Neale Newsome. Lewis was my best friend, my husband, my life. I not only loved him, I adored him. I will continue our breeding program to honor him, and to make him proud of what he started. Lewis died of a massive heart attack while doing what he loved best in the world, feeding the horses. Rest in piece darling.
