MARY (& the Saints)

"The Bible tells us to worship only the Lord your God, but Catholics worship Mary, saints, and the angels!"

Besides the number of Marian doctrines which evangelicals consider "unbiblical", there is also the charge that the practise of praying to Mary and the Saints has effectively replaced God. Understanding Marian doctrine & devotion requires an understanding of the Church as the Mystical Body of Christ, as well as an area of biblical studies on character foreshadowing.

A note to myself (and maybe you):
St. Jerome translated the Latin version from Hebrew. The KJV translators based their work largely from St. Jerome's.
    Mt1:23 [KJV link]:
ecce virgo in utero habebit et pariet filium et vocabunt nomen eius Emmanuhel
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel
    Is7:14 [KJV link]:
ecce virgo concipiet et pariet filium et vocabitis nomen eius Emmanuhel
Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Strong's #5959 (virgin, young woman) from #5958 (young man) from #5956 (to be concealed)

** If you look up the first number, they have a reference which says "There is no instance where it can be proved that this word designates a young woman who is not a virgin".
