If Jesus is allowed to come into your heart, and rule your life, then you will not be a double minded, or an unstable person.
James 1:5-8 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."
When we waver, when we are double minded, we will not receive anything from God. If you are a little bit hot, and you are a little bit cold, you will be spewed out.
Rev. 3:16 "So then because thou art luke warm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth." BR>
God will reject your prayers, if you are insincere, or double minded. If you come to God, and are not sure that He is going to answer your prayer, why do you even pray? Prayer to God is not like a gambling slot machine; You pull the lever doubting that you are going to win, but hoping that you do. Why do we pray to God, doubting that He is going to answer us, but hoping that He will? Double minded!
Heb. 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him."
For someone to claim to hate the devil's ways, and hate the devil's works, and yet does not turn to God in complete faith, without doubting and wavering, is not pleasing to God. God does not want you to just come to Him and bring all your complaints about what the devil is doing, and then pray to Him in doubt, as if to say, "and I know you probably will not do anything about it."
You have to have enough faith , here on earth, to know that God will take good care of you: No doubt about it! Can you can not go to Heaven, having the least bit of questions, and not sure of God's complete love for you?
Have you ever heard a parent tell a child, "Honey we love you; nothing is going to happen to you." God is telling us, all through His word that He loves us and nothing is going to happen to us. Why do we doubt God's promises? As if to say, "I know what you promised, but I doubt if you will keep it." How do you think that makes God feel?
Have you ever had some one that you love, and would do anything for, say to you, "I would ask you for a favor, but I doubt that you care enough about me to do it?" Did that hurt your feelings? Does God love us or not?
Why do we pray hoping, but really thinking it is hopeless? Double Minded! We have more faith in our earthly parents to help us, than we do in our Heavenly Father. As an earthly parent encourages his child to come to him at all times, so the Lord encourages us to lay before Him our wants and perplexities, our gratitude and love.
Every promise is sure. Let the blessed promises of God be set in the framework of faith, be not double minded. Not one of God's promises will fail. All that God hath spoken He will do. The devil never can take out of the hand of Jesus, any person who is obeying, and trusting in His promises.
To doubt God's promises would be worse than doubting that the sun will come up tomorrow. God has placed the promises in His word to lead us to have faith in Him. All along our pathway God places the flowers of promise to brighten our journey. But many are double minded, and refuse to gather these flowers, choosing instead the thorns and thistles. We weep. We mourn. We complain. We bring out troubles to God's attention, and then go ahead and have anxiety and worry, about them, doubting that God will do anything. We should look at the promises of God with comfort, hope, and joy, for they speak to us the words of the True God, who cannot lie.
Titus 1:2 "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began."
Why do we claim God's promises, to save us, and take us to heaven, and then be double minded, and not claim His promises concerning our money, and everything else? God knows our wants, our needs, and has provided for them.
Phil. 4:19 "But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
The Lord has a treasure house of supplies for His children, and can give them what they need under all circumstances. Then why do we not trust Him? If we are double minded and do not trust Him, it is because we are guilty of unfaithfulness in obedience to Him.
Do you doubt the bank will cash your paycheck when you bring it to the bank? Does God pay you if you work for the devil? God has made precious promises to His children on condition of faithful obedience to His precepts. Should you expect God to be faithful to you, if you are not faithful to Him? God always keeps His promises, but His promises are conditional.
Do not think that God has will reward you if you work for the devil. If you work for Coke do you think Pepsi should pay you?
Work for God! He has the best pay and the best retirement plan.
There is not a burden but He can remove; No darkness but He can dispel: No weakness but He can change to power: No fears but He can calm. God has provided for all the comforts the soul needs. His promises are suited to the friendless, the poverty striken, the wealthy, the sick, the poor, the bereaved, whoever puts their trust in God, by faithful obedience.
All may have their appropriate help if they will see and take hold upon the promises by faith. God has promises for us, concerning anything in life; so, we should be obedient to Him, and claim them with no double minded doubt involved.
When you are double minded, then you are trying to please both sides. God wants you to trust Him. But, worry and doubt is of the devil. So, the devil does not want you to trust God, but to doubt God, therefore pleasing the devil.
When something happens, to us, good, then we praise the Lord; But, when something happens that does not seem to us as good, and we misunderstand it, then we doubt and question God's promises, and get anxiety, stress, worry, and complain, therefore praising the devil. Are you bringing glory to God, when you exalt all your problems?
Which do we talk about the most, our problems, or our blessings? Bad things come from the devil. Good comes from God. We should talk about good and God, not bad and the devil.
Whatever comes out of the mind, had to go in. If the mind is double, and both good and bad had to go in. If our mind absorbs the things of the world, and we do not want to leave God out, so we try to absorb a few things of God, once in a while, then our input will be double minded, and therefore our output will be double minded.
When a person spends hours reading, listening and watching bad stuff, murder, adultery, and all the other things of the devil, and then pray and try to read a couple verses before going to bed, then that is a double intake to the mind. Which one will you remember the most? The murder mystery you watched, or the two verses you read? No wonder evil is coming out of people. The devil has everybody fasinated with all his evil excitement going on: While the mind is dominated with all the worldliness, things of God just seem to be too boring. So , the church trys to compete with the world, and entertain, to attract people. Evil and good should not go into a person's mind. The evil will be manifested and defile the person.
Mat. 15: 18-20 "But those things which proceed out of the mout come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies; These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man."
Can you say the multiplication tables, if they did not go into your mind? No! It cannot come out if it did not go in. So do not put evil in your mind, and it will not come out and defile you.
If you are double minded, it is your fault. You should not try to put God and the devil, both, in your mind.
James 3:6, 9-12 "And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity; so is the tongue among our members, that is defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. There with bless we God, even the Father; and there with curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? So can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh."
Whatever you dwell on, that is your mind dwelling on it. If you dwell on God and believe Him, then doubt and worry will not be coming out. If it is coming out, then you have been dwelling on the devil, and he has got you doubting God. If we are following Jesus, then we need to keep our minds on God, and not on the devil.
Col.3:1-3 "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God."
So, if you are hid with Christ in God, then the devil cannot get to you, unless you come out from hiding.
Psa. 143:9 "Deliver me, O Lord, from mine enemies; I flee unto thee to hide me."
If you do not want to be double minded, then hide God's word in your heart.
Psa. 119:11 "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
A double minded person trys to play both sides. He does not want to give up all of his sins, and he does not want to sin too much and take the chance of being lost: So, he trys to hold on to some sins, while at the same time stay in good with God. That will not work with God!
Mat. 12:30 "He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad."
God does not go for double minded. He wants you to love Him with all your mind.
Mark 12:30 "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment."
If you love the Lord with all your mind, then you will have faith and trust Him, never doubting that He will care for you. If we commit the keeping of ourselves to God, His promises will not fail us. The only limits, that God's promises have, is our faith.
Many times Jesus said: Mat. 8:26 "Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?" If our faith is limited toward God, then we have some doubt: And therefore are double minded. We have to have the faith of Jesus. Jesus never doubted His Father.
Rev. 14:12 "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."
Look to God in faith, believing His promises. Keep your mind trustful, not doubting. God will be your helper in everything. Lean on God, depend on God. Put your trust in God, Whose arm will never fail.
Mark 9:23 "Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth."
Mark 11:24 " Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them , and ye shall have them."
Why even pray if you doubt that God will answer your prayer? A prayer is not a real prayer if it has no faith in it. Faith will penetrate the darkest cloud and bring rays of light and hope to the drooping desponding person. It is double mindedness, the absence of faith and trust, which brings perplexity, distressing fears, worry, and anxiety. God will do great things for anyone who puts their trust in Him, and obeys Him.
It is Satan's work to discourage a person. When you have doubt and unbelief, then you are agreeing with Satan against God.
Mat 18:19 "Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven."
So if you and the devil agree that God is not going to take care of you, that God is not going to do anything to help you, what is God supposed to do, force His help and care upon you?
Agree with God! Do not let the devil keep you in the slavery of doubt, and the bondage of unbelief. Doubt and unbelief is the opposite of faith and trust. How do you think it makes God feel? God is the most trusted One in all existence. How would it make you feel for someone that you love dearly, not to trust you?
No matter what is going on in our lives, even if it looks like the only way to view it is with doubt, God can fix it. When in faith, not doubting, or being double minded, we take hold of His strength, He will change, wonderfully change, the most hopeless, discouraging outlook. Just remember the song, "Blessed Assurance Jesus is Mine"
Satan is ready to steal away the blessed assurance you have in Jesus. Do not let the devil do it to you! Fight the good fight of faith.
1Tim 6:12 "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life."
Do not let the devil use you to fight against God. Fight against the devil. The devil is your enemy. God is on your side. God loves His children, and He longs to see them overcoming the discouragement with which Satan would overpower them. Do not give way to unbelief. Do not magnify your difficulties. Remember the love and power that God has shown in times past. God has never changed, and started letting people down.
