Jack Dempseys are from the Central Amazon Basin, and are an agressive fish. They are a fascinating fish to keep and watch. They are very colorful and are a great fish to have. They like water temps of 72-78 degrees farenheit, PH of 6.7-7.2, and GH of 10. When inducing them to spawn, raise the water temps to 80-82 degrees farenheit. They grow to about 7 inches and are dark brown with metallic blue spots. They like lots of places to hide, with lots of rocks and plants. Some people get a large piece of PVC pipe to put in the tank for them to hide in. They eat live feeders, rosies or feeder guppies, and lettuce or cabbage in limited amounts. They will also eat pelleted Cichlid foods. These fish are best kept alone with their own kind. It is suggested to add a Danio to the tank for them to chase so that they can take thier aggressions out on it, so that they wont be aggressive towards thier tankmates.
