"Hey, Pop, ya getting slow," Akane heard Ranma yell as she slowly awoke. Do they always have to be so loud? She thought to herself as she glanced over at her clock. "Oh, no. I'm going to be late again," she said. Dreading the thought of standing in the hall yet again with a bucket of water, she bolted out of bed, heading towards the bathroom, completely failing to hear the splash that came from the yard.
As Akane undressed in the changing area and hurried in to bathe, she forgot to put out the "Do Not Disturb" sign. A minute or so after Akane went in, onna-Ranma entered the changing area, still soaked from her little dip in the pond. Damn, oyaji. You didn't have to get me wet you know. After stripping out of her wet clothes, she entered the bathroom, failing to notice Akane sinking under the water in the furo. Just as she was about to get in, Akane arose out of the water. Onna-Ranma froze like a deer stuck in the headlights of an oncoming car.
"A-A-Akane, I can explain. I didn't mean to walk in on you, really I didn't. There was no sign on the door so I thought it wa—" Akane stopped Ranma's blabbering with a deep kiss.
"Now, that's better," Akane said, pulling out of the kiss, successfully shutting Ranma up. "Well, what are you waiting for? Get your butt in here and change back to a guy. That's what you're here for anyway isn't it? I've got to go finish getting dressed," Akane finished, raising out of the furo, wrapping a towel around herself. Seeing Ranma still standing where she'd been, still unmoved. Akane let out an annoyed breath. "If you don't hurry, we'll be late. I really don't feel like holding buckets out in the hall again." Then she left, slamming the door closed behind herself, muttering something about how all men were idiots.
Ranma soon shook herself out of the shock she was in and got into the hot furo, dunking herself all the way under, letting the change take place. As he emerged, he sat thinking about what had just happened between himself and Akane. I can't believe she didn't hit me and yell at me like she usually does? But oh man, did she look beautiful when she was getting out. A small smile started spreading across his face at that thought. At that moment, Kasumi decided to announce breakfast, which snapped him out of la-la-land and brought him back to earth. He hurriedly got out, dried, and got dressed before rushing out to breakfast. Hopefully oyaji will leave me some. He decided to push what had just happened between him and Akane , into a corner of his mind. He'd definitely have to think about that later.
At breakfast, things were definitely different. Nabiki, still in shock, was much quieter than usual. Genma was so deep in shock that he hardly touched his food (which meant that the shock was too much for not only his brain, but also his stomach to handle). Soun was still going on about how his baby girl was getting married. The only one's who were normal (if you can call anyone who lives in this house normal) were Nodoka and Kasumi (then again, they had a part in telling the rest of the family).
As Ranma took his seat next to Akane, he looked around the table in disbelief. Oh well, it could be worse. I could have people trying to kill me right now. At that thought, Ranma gave a slight laugh.
"What's so funny?" Akane asked, wondering what Ranma had on his mind.
"Oh nothing," he said. Then whispering to her, "I'll tell you on our way to school." Turning to her and giving her a kiss on the forehead.
"Ranma," Akane said in a tone that said 'you're embarrassing me and if you don't stop, I'll smash you head in with my mallet.'
Deciding it was best to keep his mouth shut about that comment, or rather lack of one, he turned towards Kasumi. "Hey Kasumi, breakfast looks great. Thanks."
"Oh my. You're very welcome, Ranma-kun."
"Son, when you and Akane get home today, why don't we start deciding on a date?" Nodoka said calmly while turning towards the family members that were still in shock to make sure they understood what she meant. In other words, she didn't want them to disturb their planning session. If any of them did, let's just say they wouldn't like what would happen to them.
Ranma looked over at Akane who gave a nod of approval. "Sure, Mother. That sounds great. Hey Akane, we'd better get started for school. We don't want to be late."
"Okay, Ranma," she said as she got up from her place. "Bye, okaasan. We'll see you when we get home. After grabbing her school bag and her and Ranma's lunches from Kasumi, they headed out the door together, hand in hand.
As was becoming habit with them, they decided to take the long way to school. They figured that it offered them fewer chances to run into other fiancées and that in turn helped keep them from fighting.
After a few minutes of silence from Ranma, Akane started to get worried. "Ranma what's on your mind? You know that whatever it is you can tell me. Besides, didn't you say you'd tell me what you thought was so funny at breakfast?" She said, lightly poking him in the ribs.
"Hey, that tickles," Ranma said with a smile spreading across his lips. "Okay, I'll tell you what I thought was so funny. I thought that it was funny how quiet it was this morning. Then I thought that it could be worse. People could be trying to kill me right now. Does that answer your question?" He finished, trying to tickle Akane.
"Hey, stop that. You know how much I hate being tickled," Akane said, getting close enough to Ranma to kiss him. Which immediately took his mind off tickling her. After giving him a quick peck on the lips, she continued. "So, what were you thinking about a few minutes ago? You looked worried."
Putting on a more serious face, Ranma looked down at her beautiful face. "I was just thinking, maybe it's not such a good idea to tell the others about our marriage plans. You remember what happened at out last wedding. The people who ruined that one are the one's were planning on telling about this one. I just don't want to take another chance loosing you again," Ranma finished with a sad and downright depressing look on his face.
"Oh Ranma," Akane said, caressing his cheek lightly. "You never have to worry about loosing me, silly. I'll always be here."
"I know, I know. I guess I'm still trying to convince my brain of that," Ranma said as he kissed the palm of her hand. "One thing though, even if I don't want to tell any of them, I really need to talk to Ucchan. I have to find some way to repay the dowry that the old man took—"
"Not just you, baka, both of us. Remember, you're not in this alone anymore," Akane said interrupting Ranma. "Now let's get to school. We can talk about this later at home. Besides, I think this is something your…I mean Mom needs to know about and be in on."
"I have a feeling you're right. Come on, let's go."
When Ranma and Akane arrive at school, Kuno, as usual, was there to greet them. (He didn't even go to school at Furinkan anymore, so why did he keep comming back. Couldn't he find anyone elses life to make miserable?)
"Ranma, you vile, evil sorcerer. Release my beloved Akane and Osage no onna."
"Hey, Kuno. Can't you give it a rest for once. I'm really in too good of a mood to beat your face into a pulp this morning," Ranma responded. "By the way, don't you have a class at the University right now?"
"Yeah, Kuno-sempai. Could you just leave me and Ranma alone for once?" Akane said coldly. Turning towards Ranma, "come on, we don't want to be late because of this idiot."
"Ok, Akane. I'm coming." Looking back at Kuno who just went into one of his major face-faults. "Oh yeah, if you so much as look at Akane funny, I swear I'll break every bone in your body. Have a nice day."
As the couple left, neither of them noticed Nabiki walking up to Kuno.
"I hate to tell you this, Kuno-baby, but they're getting married," Nabiki said, not knowing exactly why she was giving Kuno this potentially profitable information.
