Selected Poems
My Bibliography
My
poetry collection, How Do You Feel? (Sono
Nis, Victoria, 1992) (review,
article)
was nominated for a BC Book Award. Are We There Yet?,
a chapbook published by Dollarpoems, Brandon University is illustrated
by Heather Speers. My Poems have been published in MD Magazine,
the Medical Post and BCMA newspapers, BC
Medical Journal, and numerous literary magazines including
Room of One’s Own, Event, and Poetry Canada.
I was an early member of the Vancouver Industrial Writers’
Union, who stayed together for a decade and produced audiotapes
and the anthologies Shop Talk and More Than Our Jobs.
We performed with the folk group Fraser Union at the
Vancouver Folk Festival, the Seattle FolkFest, the
Bumbershoot Festival, the
Mayworks Labour Arts Festival, and other venues in Canada
and the United States. Many VIWU members were also featured
in the work writing anthologies A Government Job At Last
and Going For Coffee, both edited by
Tom Wayman; the latter remains in print and is being used
as a textbook in a number of high school and college literature
courses.
I’ve
been in 15 anthologies: the latest is The Dominion of Love
(Harbour Press, 2001), edited by Tom Wayman. This anthology
of love poetry by Canadians features 50 writers, including Leonard
Cohen, Margaret Atwood, Earl Birney, Al Purdy, Michael Ondaatje,
and former VIWU members Zoë Landale, Mark Warrior, Sandy
Shreve, Erin Moure, David Conn, and Kate Braid.
Other anthologies include A Labour Of Love (Polestar,
1989) edited by Mona Fertig, and The Limits of Miracles
(Bergin
and Garvey, 1984) edited by Marion Cohen, both on mothering;
and The Naked Physician (Quarry Press, 1990) and Blood
and Bone (University of Iowa Press, 1999) (review),
both anthologies of poetry by physicians. A CD compilation from
the latter anthology is available as "Serving the Flesh & the
Soul... Poems by Doctors on the Path to Discovery & Healing".
