As many of you know, most of the family were removed from home on 26th November 1998. The details of this are on the 1998 and all that page on this site. What many are not aware of is that of the 26 removed, 18 have returned home.
After 2 weeks, Brian, Evie, Shirley, Colin and Angela returned home. They consulted a solicitor who told them that as adults they could choose where they lived. They chose to return to their family. The two couples (Brian and Evie, Colin and Shirley) have remained at home. Angela left home in 2000 but keeps in touch and visits regularly. Lee returned a few days later and so did Rachel. Sadly Rachel died in February 2000. Lee also died in April 2007.
Ben, Andrew and James were all in their late teens when they were removed, Ben was 17 3/4. They all requested to come home, but had to fight for this in meetings with their Social Workers and in court through their solicitors. They all returned in early 1999. Ben, James and Andrew have since left home.
In October 1999 Essex County Council commenced Care Proceedings, requesting Care orders on the 6 children removed in 1998 who were still under 17. Jeanette did not oppose this in the case of the oldest child whose future now clearly lay elsewhere. As far as the other 5 children is concerned, 3 of these were returned home to Jeanette in the summer of 2000. The judge decided that the two others should not return.
In 2001 Jeanette was again in the High Courts. The result of this was that her 4 adult sons, Nicholas, Matthew, Danny and Tony returned home by the end of that year. In April 2003 Toby also returned home. All the young adults are doing well and photos of them, and their artwork can be seen on this website.
A recent court case, brought by Karen, resulted in very positive comments being made by a High Court Judge about Jeanette, and all restrictions on her being removed. See Great News!
Recently a friend we met at a college course has come to live with us. Her name is Angela.
In October Angela and Toby got married. They are very happy.
The background to this page was created by Matthew Roberts.
