"I think that this [an abstinence-only education program] is the most responsible approach for a school district to take. The idea behind contraceptive education is that, since youth are likely to experiment sexually, we must tell them how to do this more safely. What would happen if we applied this logic to other social problems? Should a school district say, "It would be naive to think that students won't drive after they've been drinking. Let's teach them to be safer and wear a seat belt while they're driving drunk." Why not help them avoid the behavior in the first place? Additionally, will teaching them to a way to be safer while engaging in risky behavior give them a false sense of security? When you consider the high rate of sexually transmitted diseases, putting your faith in contraceptives is gambling with your life. Contraceptive education [in a public school] also violates a parent's right to teach their children about this subject in the way the see most appropriate."
