I have always had a love for animals; ask my mom,
I was always bringing home stray dogs and cats.
A few pigs, my dear mother never really cared until she found the goat I hid
in my room…,
that was a no no.
I got my first Lab in 1979, she was a black Lab, and her name was Ladybugs.
I was hooked; she was the most loyal,
loving friend I have ever had, 2 years later I bought Yeller,
a beautiful yellow female, what a pair.
Now I was really hooked.
My kids used to say that I loved the dogs more than them,
ehehhe not true of course, but where else can you go outside
to empty the trash and the dogs act like they haven’t seen you in a week,
and the kids??
Well, they were glued to the t.v.
I remarried a man in 1987 who like me had great love for animals,
He fell in love with my Labs, (I had acquired a few others along the way)
we bought the books on breeding, and learned two very important things,
that you start with the best dogs, and you only breed to improve the breed.
Our first Cactusmoon Lab was “Katie” a very dear special friend whom we
still have,
Her bloodlines were show champions.
Then my husband Dave, who was a heavy equipment mechanic at FMC Gold Paradise
Peak,
had a boss who Field Trialed, well that got us hooked on the Field Trial Dogs.
Our first one being “Dakota” by FC-AFC Candlewoods M.D. Houston,
“Cheyanne” by FC-AFC Hiwood Clincher, and “Stormin Norman” by FC
Mueller’s Stormy Canada…..
we also bought “Ladybugs 2” by NFC Candlewoods Super Tanker.
Our choc “Hershey “ by 2 Master Hunters X Field Champions. That was our
start.
Although we did find out that the Field Trialing was very expense and time
consuming,
so we had our beloved dogs professionally trained for upland game…
(my husband being an avid hunter, really liked that.
Well our little place in Mina, Nevada got to small
(my husband who was a cowboy and grew up on ranches, also decided to raise
Paint Horses)
so we Bought a 30 acre ranch in Fallon, NV. With plenty of room for all.
Most of our Lab puppies have gone to be family members,
(couch potatoes) many are also Hunting dogs,
some have competed in AKC Dog Shows, Hunt Tests and a few in Field Trials.
We’ve learned a lot over the years, and I believe have put out some awesome
dogs.
We certainly have met some wonderful people who are now part of our “Lab
family”
I have shipped pups to Alaska, Ohio, New Jersey, Virginia, Louisiana, Southern
Calif, Northern Calif…and all over Nevada.
I have sold as many as 4 dogs to one family. (they too were hooked on Labs)
It is my belief, that if you treat your Lab (any dog really) like your best
friend,
he will become almost human, Snorkies is human.
I give our puppies an excellent start in life….lots of socialization
Lots of handling,
and most important “lots of love” (shy puppies get a little bit extra)
Each puppie gets a temporary name at about 3 weeks;
they start to show their personalities by then.
We always try to give new puppy buyers an honest evaluation of each puppy, or
puppies, they are interested in.
Puppies, like children, have separate personalities.
We worm them every two weeks; they get their first shots and go to the Vet at
6 weeks for a health checkup.
They are ready to go to loving Lab homes at 7 weeks.
They come with a puppy packet,
(registration papers, pics, parent’s ofa’s, pedigrees, guarantee,
congratulations,
and lots of Lab information if I haven’t already given that to you yet.
They also get an Iam’s puppie packet.
From the new puppy parents, I enjoy getting updates,
pictures, and really love it when they get to come and see grandma!!!!
