Rented microfilm of 1900 census for Clearfield Co., looked at it twice; Sandy Twp is not on it. I know my family lived in Sabula, Sandy Twp in 1900. Is there somewhere else the census of Sabula could be for that year or did they not have one? I can't find these people recorded on anything, anywhere. I know they lived but they sure did stay anonymous.

Surname(s): MC DOWELL
County: Clearfield

Comments:
I am looking for information on and descendants of John MC DOWELL and Mary Ann THOMAS. Mary Ann is a sister to my great great grandmother. She was born in Panteague, Monmouthshire, Wales on 22 May 1846, the daughter of Henry THOMAS and Ann ORAM. Henry and Ann and most of their children went west from Mercer County, PA in the early 1870's, but Mary Ann and a sister, Elizabeth, had married and stayed in PA. Elizabeth married James NIXON and they lived most of their lives and died in Rush Township n Centre County. What I need is more information on John MC DOWELL. He died in Hawk Run Township, Clearfield County on 9 Feb 1932. Mary Ann had died there, too, clear back on 13 Mar 1894. Known children for the couple are George, Elizabeth, Minnie (ma ried name MILLS), and James. I need to know when and where John and Mary Ann married. It was likely 1868-1871 in either Mercer County, PA, or in Ohio across the state line from Mercer County. On the 1900 Census John gave his birth as Dec 1847 in Ireland. Would like to find some of his descendants who could give an exact birth date, place of birth, name of parents, as well as the requested marriage information. Anyone with a connection to this family please contact me with the information you have. I can help you with the THOMAS/ORAM lines back to Wales for about 2 or 3 generations. Thanks, Ed Scriven

This is a correction and addition to my earlier query. My grandfather that fought in the Civil War was George SMITH, not Paul Smith. He was married to Sarah MCCORMICK. They lived in Houtzdale after the war. George got shot in the right elbow during the war and spent time in a medical regiment in Washington DC. With a bum right arm he was able to work in the coal mines.

Harris - 07/01/98 19:30:05
My Email:Billy3@Kodak.com
Surname(s): HARRIS/LITZ
County: Clearfield

Comments:
I'm seeking information on a Sarah Litz who married a John Harris, approximately 1840-1847 range. The tax list has John Harris as being in Osceola Mills as a single man in 1843. I find them in the Fed census in Clearfield County, Decater township in 1850.T ey are listed with two children at that time, William and Henry. They are again in the 1860 census in Osceolo Mills, Decater township, Clearfield Pa. where my grandfather was born(Abraham - 1858), and also a Anna, and a John. The mothers name listed on m grandfather's records showed Sarah Litz as his mother, but the census varied that name from Susan to Nancy. I have no idea where either the Litz or Harris family came from or who their parents were. I would appreciate any information you may have on this families. I also would appreciate any information on the town of Beaverton (mining town near Osceola Mills) or the mines located in that area.
