I recently came into posession of documents apparently not meant for public release, So naturally I'm posting the info here!
These concern the latest company to license the Japanese 70s animated series, Gatchaman, for translation and release in the US. This company is -get this- DISNEY!
For the first time, the show will be redrawn in addition to the usual re-recording and re-writing that goes with translation.
Disney wishes to cast their own characters into the rolls, much as they did with their successful series, TaleSpin, which used the established Jungle Book characters in a setting similar to a short-lived TV series, Tales of the Gold Monkey.
According to the Documents I have, the gang from A.A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh will be starring in this venture. The working titles include Gatchapooh, Galaxy Pooh, and Pooh's Rangers.
Character Descriptions:
Eagle Pooh
Leader of the Team.
His Eaglerang is now a blunt instrument made of wood.
Condor Tigger
The passionate member of the team. Acts before thinking.
He has cybernetic abilities, the most notable being his high leaps.
Swan Kanga
The only Female member, she's protective of her son, Roo.
Sparrow Roo
The youngest member. He's very capable for his age, resents the rest of the team holding him back.
Owl Eeyore
The Quiet member. He pilots the Phoenix, the team's mutual airship.
There was some controversy as to whether Owl should play this part. I suppose Eeyore won out so the name would not be "Owl Owl."
Dr Christopher Robin
The Team's Mentor and designer of their arsenal.
Heffalump
A Masked, Mutant elephant. Leader of the Galactic Woozel Corp. His underlings are generally Mutant Weasels in green outfits.
Pigl-8
A cute robot that oversees the HQ. Sort of a cross between 7-Zark-7 and Alpha-5. Played by Piglet.This seems to be a small, comic relief part since Dr Robin handles most of the other functions in the story.
Various Annoying Characters
This is apparently the only way the writers could see to include Rabbit and Owl in the cast. Various Government officials, Bureaucrats, and Press Reporters will be drawn as rabbits or Owls.
