WHAT ARE RANGERS?
Rangers are the senior section of GirlGuidingNZ. They are for girls aged 13 or in year 9 (3rd form) and under 19 years. Many join Rangers after completing the Guides Aotearoa Award in the Guide section but any girl can be a Ranger and she doesn’t need to have been involved in Guiding before.
RANGER OR RANGER IN LEADERSHIP (RIL)
Girls have a choice. RIL's work regularly in a unit alongside an adult leader with our younger members. RIL's gain special Leadership Qualifications and often go on to become adult leaders.
Rangers don't work regularly in a unit but are often invited to help at camps, special days etc.
THE RANGER PROGRAMME
The programme is divided into 12 sections called Points:
Action Outdoors Heritage
Contemporary Issues International
Dynamic Health Leisure
Environmental Awareness Promise & Law
Faith Service
Future Focus Technonlogy
Each point has a number of certificates that Rangers can work on. Both Rangers and RIL's can work on all aspects of the Ranger programme. It is up to each individual girl to decide what she would like to do and how she does it. Her Ranger Leader is avaiable to consult with and help at all times. RIL's can also consult with the unit leader they are working with. The ulimate Award for this age is the Queen's Guide Award. It requires dedication and determination as this is often completed during the senior High School years, which can be a very busy time for young women. For those over 16 years a selection of Outdoor Permits and Adult Qualifications can also be gained.

As Rangers can work on whatever they like, most do their own things and I'm just there to support and encourage.
