The Shadow of a Vampire, R rating.  (2000)
Cary Elwes, John Malkovich, Willem DaFoe, Eddie Izzard, and more.

The Shadow of the Vampire is a historical piece regarding the era of the 1920's and cinema with a 'mad' director possibly using a real 'dracula' to play the faux Bram Stroker's Dracula, which this director didn't have authorization to use.  He changed the name of the 'dracula', and enlisted what appears to be a real Creature of the Night.  John Malkovich plays the director (FW Murnau) and the film this is regarding is Nosferatu, a 1922 German horror movie.  It was very interesting to watch, as Malkovich gave an erie porformance.  Cary Elwes plays a camera operator (Fritz Arno "Fritzy' Wagner) and is wonderful to watch, as always.  Willem DaFoe was amazing (Schreck).  Anyone that enjoys historical viewpoints, or remembers the hush-hush surrounding the original movie (Nosferatu), as well as anyone that enjoys horror, and the cast, will enjoy the movie.  The Shadow of the Vampire is directed by E. Elias Merhige.

I found the movie to be very interesting, and based on historical time frame/events (1937/controversial musical).  There were a lot of characters (and many familiar actors), and the storyline become more interesting as the characters were more  intertwined with each other.  The storyline was particularly exciting as the pinnacle of the movie was drawing near.  John Houseman (in an astonishing performance by Cary Elwes) and Orsen Wells (played beautifully by Angus MacFayden) were just fun to watch as they were trying to find a theater to house their play (as it had been shut down by the gov't during an injunction against it) at the last minute.  Vanessa Redgrave (as Countess LaGrange) was delicious in her role!  This film has nudity and with the R rating is definitely for adult audiences, but wonderful for anyone that likes historical pieces, or the actors involved (and there are many awesome actors).  The Cradle Will Rock is directed by Tim Robbins.
