A Florence woman, whose 2-month-old son died Friday, was killed in a crash on I-65 near Atmore in southern Alabama. Tonja Kennedy Roberts, 36, died at the scene of that accident, state troopers said.
In the crash in south Alabama that claimed Roberts' life, the victim's sister, Elizabeth Kennedy, of Huntsville, a passenger in the car, was airlifted from the scene to a medical facility in Pensacola, Fla. Her condition was unavailable Wednesday.
Troopers with the Evergreen post said the accident happened at 12:45 a.m., six miles south of Atmore.
Reports indicate the 1998 Nissan driven by Roberts was traveling north on I-65. Troopers said her car apparently struck a bridge, spun around in the middle of the roadway and was hit by a northbound tractor-trailer truck.
Roberts was scheduled to bury her son today (August 24, 2005) at a funeral in Florence.
