About
 Leevenrob German Shepherds

Leevenrob Kennels became official on July 3, 1979 with the registration of the name with the Canadian Kennel Club but its real beginning started in the mid-fifties.  That's when I fell in love with the breed and became determined to become a part of it.  My association with the German Shepherd has been a lifelong passion and I hope it will continue until I take my last breath.

I didn't breed my first litter until the late seventies but I worked with the GSD and learned as much as I could from all the experts I could find.  One of those was Mrs. Elizabeth Kaas of the Steelcity Kennels in Southern Ontario ..... she was one of my mentors and her knowledge of the breed was enormous!  She was also one of the few people I've ever known that was a friend of Herr Von Stephanitz, the breed's "inventor".

In 1978, I acquired a female, Lana vom Kreuzberg, that started my foray into the dog show world.  She was amazing!  Her lines were Steelcity and also of great German Siegers.  Lana and I worked in obedience first and then conformation as an afterthought.  By the time Lana was 19 months old, she had earned the title Obedience Trial Champion and won a Dog World Award of Distinction.  When she died of liver cancer in 1988, she was O.T.Ch. Lana vom Kreuzberg U.D.T., Am. C.D., Am. T.D. and had always been in the ribbons.  Her death left me devastated ..... but her daughter "Amber" kept her lineage alive for me and to this day I will have a dog in my kennel that goes back to Lana.

At Leevenrob, the goal has been to produce a dog with great temperament, trainability and be pleasing to the eye by fitting the Standard.  Even though a lot of the Leevenrob dogs aren't famous in the conformation ring, they have made their marks in the hearts of the people who owned them.  I firmly believe that the quality of life that a dog leads is far more important than the amount of ribbons it wins and my main focus has always been on placing pups in good homes.  Some of my best show quality dogs never made it to a show but had wonderful families who loved them ..... that to me is SUCCESS!  All Leevenrob dogs are 'house dogs' and every litter is born in the house too ..... they are my family and I treasure them all.
