The Garment of Praise

“One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His Temple.” Psalms 27:4

The Psalmist had a singular outcome for his desire---to behold our Heavenly Father's beauty. There is a sweet attractiveness to our Father. He is delightfully lovely. The power of the beauty of God is greatly untaught. If the revelation of the beauty of our heavenly Father were more pre-eminent in the lives of Christians there would more overcoming power and holy living.

The above verse from Psalms 27:4 was put to music in recent years and is one of my favorites. I frequently find myself being led to play and sing the scripture in my private times of praise and worship.

  ONE THING

One thing have I desired of Yahweh,
That will I seek after;
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD,
All the days, all the days of my life.
To behold the beauty of the LORD,
And to inquire in His Temple.
To behold the beauty of the LORD,
And to inquire in His Temple.

Like David, I have one desire and that is to dwell in the presence of the LORD all the days of my earthly life and thereafter in His Eternal Kingdom. I am drawn to the beauty of the LORD and wish to gaze upon His loveliness. When life becomes hectic or pain surges through your body, you are rejected, wounded, or abused by those with ill intent, you can slip way into that Secret Place of the Most High where you can gaze upon the Beauty of the heavenly Father. I draw strength from knowing that I am made in God’s Image and Likeness. Therefore, no matter how you and I may feel or even look to others, His Beauty is resident in each of His Children.

“Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.” Psalms 29:2

O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness; fear (reverence) before Him, all the earth.” Psalms 96:9

In that day shall the Branch of the LORD shall be beautiful. And glorious, and the fruit of the earth will be the pride and the adornment of the survivors of Israel.” Isaiah 4:2

Not only is our Heavenly Father beautiful, but His Son, the Branch, is equally beautiful. The Savior declared on more than one occasion that He was the image and likeness of His Father…therefore He always manifested the beauty and glory of His Father to His Disciples and Followers. Further we see in scripture that part of Jesus' commission was to pass the beauty of His Father to all Believers.  The Prophet Isaiah declared that the Savior came “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they (we) might be called Trees of Righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3

Truly the Son of God will put upon the Children of God a Garment of Praise instead of heaviness, the Oil of Gladness instead of mourning, and Beauty that obscures the flesh. The Followers of Christ Jesus are Plantings of the LORD in the earth---His Glory in flesh bodies that He might be glorified.

All Christians declare God's Beauty through His Son who provided the Redemptive Love of the Father to those who would accept the Savior as the Son of God. It is this Redemptive Love in the Son that has made the Body of Christ magnetic to the peoples of the world.

“For God takes pleasure in His Children: He will beautify the meek with salvation.  Let the high praises of the LORD be in their mouth, and a two edged sword in their hand…” Psalm 149:4, 6a

You may not think of yourself as a very beautiful person, however, the Word declares that God has made you beautiful through the cleansing power of the Blood of Jesus. We are exhorted to understand this beauty and even be joyful in it.

The true beauty of Christ Jesus is His love overcoming a multitude of sins. True beauty is the effect of His power destroying the works of the devil. True beauty is the wisdom of God’s higher principles of life.

Where there is understanding of the beauty of God’s person, there will be beautiful Christ-like lives. The attractiveness of sin grows very faint when compared to the beauty of the Father in His only Begotten Son.

Worship in Holy Array

"Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come before Him; worship the LORD in holy array (in the beauty of His holiness." 1 Chronicles. 16:23-29

The Heavenly Father left one aspect of His beauty to you and me. The completion of His heavenly beauty on the earth was to come from a group of people called by the Prophet Isaiah as “the redeemed of the LORD.” He has left the perfection of His beauty to praising and worshipping saints. This is called, “the cycle (season) of beauty.” Beauty emanates from the Creator. He dispensed this beauty to His angels, His People, even the whole creation. During the heights of pure Worship the beauty cycle is completed. Praising and worshipping hearts return the beauty of salvation to the Creator. The beauty that was sent from above is returned to its Righteous Owner who is the Giver and  Perfector of His Beauty.

God will never ask us to perform any duty without first supplying the goods. When He said we should worship Him in the beauty of holiness, He supplied the beauty and He has perfected the holiness within each of his sons and daughters. In purity and holiness it will be our natural desire and response to praise and worship the LORD in the beauty of His holiness. In God’s presence flesh falls off and the real man is revealed in the image and likeness of His Creator.

A Fountain of Joy

If you want a fountain of joy to spring up within your heart, start praising the Heavenly Father daily! The Scriptures tell us that He places a song in our heart. If we are not singing saints we are disappointing the Father. Our heavenly Father wants his Children to approach Him with praise and worship. Enter into His Gates with Thanksgiving and into His Courts with praise. (Psalm 100:4).

The graces (Fruit) of the Holy Spirit grow much stronger in fertile soil (a happy heart). In each test or trial Jesus meets the soul in a new way, bringing unspeakable joy, new peace, and a touch of His glory; therefore praise is as inevitable as water flowing from a fountain. Whenever the clouds of darkness begin to hide the loving face of the Father, praise is one of the quickest ways through to His glorious beauty and light. Come into His presence with a clean heart, and praise God’s Holy Name.

PRAISE ROUTES THE ENEMY

Did you know that you route Satan faster by praise? Remember the example in Old Testament of the power that was given to Israel when Judah under Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20; 20-21) led Israel into battle with loud praise unto GOD Almighty? What was their battle plan?

20:17 “Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow the LORD will be with you.”

18. “And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping Yahweh.”

21. “And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, and they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth forever.”

22. “And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.”

27.“Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy: for the Lord had made them to rejoice over their enemies.”

28. “And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the Lord.”

29. “And the fear of the LORD was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the Lord fought against the enemies of the Lord.

As Children of the Most High we are created to pleasure our heavenly Father! Worship and Praise pleasures HIM. Not only that, but the scriptures command that the Creator of ALL things be praised. Let every thing that hath breath Praise the LORD. Put on the “Whole Armor of the Lord God” and wrap yourself in the “Garment of Praise” and go forth in the power of the Most High.

Garment of Praise
Song written by: David Ingles

All you that mourn in Zion, I have authority,
To appoint unto you in Zion,
Oil of joy that will set you free.
Lift up the hands that hang down,
Lift up the voice now still:
Give unto God continuous praise,
Sing forth from Zion's hill.
Sing to the LORD, al le lu ia!
Worship and praise our God.
Praise and adore Him,
Bow down before Him,
O magnify the Lord.

Chorus

Put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness,
Lift up your voice to God.
Praise with the Spirit and with understand,
O magnify the Lord.
