Here are the two slipways that were constructed for the embarkation of the US VII Corps, 7th Div. from Torquay to take part in the D-Day landings on 6th June 1944.
The fate of these historically valuable slips hung in the balance as Torbay council decided whether or not to tear them down (I know, unbelievable isn't it?) but thankfully they decided against it.
