The plaque which explains the memorial. It reads:

At Caen, in Normandy, there is an international commemorative garden of some sixty acres provided by communities which had to make special sacrifices to support the Normandy landings of 1944.
One portion of that international garden was designed and contributed by the South Hams district council and is reflected in this miniature replica.
Stokenham parish council has installed that replica here by the sea front to remember with sober pride the contributions of our community including their widespread evacuation of homes, farms and fields to make room for battle training.
