This is Slapton Sands (on a very nice day I might add!) and were the very beaches employed by the US military as a site to stage practice exercises and operations prior to the invasion of Europe on June 6th 1944.
It is worth mentioning that Torcross (the small village at the far end of the sands) along with many other surrounding towns and locales had to be evacuated of all civilians in order for the US to safely (and more to the point, discreetly) carry out the exercises.
