This is the exterior of the left (No. 2) gunhouse. The guns that was housed in both gunhouses were ex-naval 4.7 inch Mark V quick-firing types. They date from 1918 and were manufactured by the Japanese Kuri Company. These guns, numbered 1372 and 1631 were firmly bolted to the floor with large bolts - the cut-off remains of which can still be seen today. Each gun weighed just over 2.5 tons. Note the original steel anti-strafing hood still remains - the RSJ's are soon to be replaced due to erosion. To the left of the photo a short tunnel leads down to the 'War Shelter'. |
