| This site is where the Unrotating Rocket Projector (URP) and Bofors Anti-Aircraft gun were sited. The earth mound marked by the bench in the foreground is where the URP was situated and this comprised of a revolving turret with racks on either side. Each of these racks held 10 rockets and the operating NCO could fire these rockets together or seperately. The concrete site to the left, in front of the URP site was where the Bofors was situated. This gun of Swedish origin fired 40mm shells that would explode upon impact or detonate at a range of approximately 8000 yards. The crew numbered about 5 to 7 personnel. Both these weapons saw regular action against hit and run enemy aircraft. |
