Capabilities

The Chester Hose Company provides Emergency Medical Service for the Town of Chester via the following programs. All programs can expand into our neighboring communities via mutual aid agreements.

First Responders
The Chester Hose Company has 15 First Responders. All Responders are State Certified Emergency Medical Technicians and or Medical Response Technicians. These volunteers are dispatched via radio pagers by Valley Shore Communications in Westbrook. All Responders have two way radio communications with Valley Shore and other Chester Hose Co. units. Responders do just that, they respond, to the scene of an emergency, from wherever they are at the time, with their own equipment and provide immediate medical care. At the same time they are dispatched, so is our Ambulance, and a Paramedic is requested via Valley Shore Communications. The First Responders will evaluate the patient and or scene determining if more help or advanced medical treatment is needed. Nine of our Responders are equipped with defibrillators, and all are equipped with a responder bag and oxygen. They are dispatched on frequency 46.180 and operate on 46.440 with a backup frequency of 45.280.

Heave Rescue
The Chester Hose Company has A Heavy Rescue Truck staffed by Hose Co. personnel. This vehicle responds as needed to Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVAs) as well as all fire calls. It carries specialty equipment including two Jaws of Life units, high pressure air bags, cribbing, back boards, stokes, ropes, ladders, cold water suits and is equipped with a trailer hitch for our Inflatable and ice rescue sled.

Ambulance
The Chester Hose Company provides Emergency Basic Life Support transportation via its Ambulance staffed with State Certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and or Medical Response Technicians (MRTs).

Paramedic Service
Advanced Life Support is provided by Middlesex Hospital Paramedic Program in conjunction with our ambulance. A Paramedic is dispatched as needed and as available either to the scene or to a rendezvous point.

Life Star
Advanced Life Support and Air Transportation is provided by Hartford Hospital's Life Star. Life Star can be requested at any time by any Chester Hose Co. unit. Life Star's response time from their base is 16 minutes.
