My Relationship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
On Nov. 10, 1996 I succumbed to the calling of the Holy Spirit and accepted Jesus Christ into my heart. (Acts 4:12) Little did I realize at that time, what a wonderful difference He would make in my life. Since I put my faith (Heb. 11:1; Rom. 10:17) in Him, and my life is so much better, I have a hard time understanding why everyone doesn’t want to accept Him and accept the free gift He offers. (Eph. 2:8,9). I have the tendency to forget how hard I fought against it. Looking back now, I realize there were many times in my life when others were trying to tell me about this free gift (as early as when I was eight years old) and I refused to listen, even to the point of getting downright mad. When my youngest daughter accepted Jesus Christ and got born again, she began trying to talk me, we had many arguments. Of course, I realize now that the reason I got so upset was because, the Holy Spirit was convicting me.
We sing a song when we go to the girls detention home (mentioned in further detail later), entitled “Somebody Prayed For Me.” Most times it makes me cry when we come to the part where.....”someone gave up their time, got down on their knees, they knew God could change my life.” Praise the Lord for my daughter’s prayers.
Early in my life, I made many mistakes, lived a wicked life, and like so many of us if I could start all over again knowing what I know now, I would do things differently. Even though I thought my life was fulfilled, I was having great difficulty living with myself, (things I had done and things I was continuing to do were eating away at me.) I had no peace and felt I’d be better off dead. Little did I realize, (that as I called out to God to take my life), if He did I would spend eternity in the lake of fire with never a chance for peace. Do you know where you are going to go when you die? (John 3:3-7) Why not acceptHim now and be sure?
Unfortunately, some people believe that they have done so many wrong things that God can never forgive them. (Luke 1:37) That is just not true! I am 53 years old now, and I know God forgave me and changed me. (2 Cor.5:17) I no longer need to be ashamed of anything. What a blessing! I did need to work at forgiving myself, though. Call on Him now and change your life. (Acts 2:21; Rom. 10:13) What Must I Do To Be Saved? Another thing people worry about are the things in their life they may have to give up or change. No one has to give up or change anything if he doesn’t want to (after God is in your life, you may find your want tos change.) His want tos are better for us than ours. (Prov. 14:12)
We all feel we can do things our way and we don’t need anyone elses help. I found that we all need Our Lord in our lives. By myself I can’t do anything, (Matt. 19:26) but “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheth me.” (Phil. 4:13)
I knew there was something missing in my life, but didn’t know what it was. Now I know, it was the peace of Jesus Christ. (John 14:27;Phil. 4:7) I felt that peace in my heart immediately after I asked Him to forgive me of all my sins and accepted Him in my heart. (1 John 1:9)
No one promised that our lives would be all peaches and cream, but I know that I can deal with whatever comes my way. When trials and tribulations get me down, all I need to do is to call on God to help me to deal with them. (1 Pet.5:7) He’s there for us no matter what the situation, wherever we are, or whatever time of the day it is. He’s never too busy to listen. (Rom 2 :11) Beginning last December a very difficult trial began in my life, which is still continuing today. I cried out to Our LORD who has been and is still with me to help me cope with it. I’ll admit there are times I have great difficulty with it, but I have to remember who is in control and call on Him for the ability to cope. (Psa. 27:14)
The important things to do after you accept Him, is to get into a good, bible believing church, read your bible daily and pray to the Lord He will take care of the rest. Be sure to pray in Jesus name as He is the one who died for us, and He is our mediator with God. (1 Tim. 2:5,6)
I feel very fortunate in that the pastor and church family God led me to is a very caring and close family. They have helped me grow spiritually. I heard people talk about God talking to you. I thought they were crazy. But one Sunday morning, the associate pastor announced that we were beginning a girl’s detention home ministry and God spoke to me right then. He told me He wanted me to be involved in this ministry. (Acts 1:8) That was May of 1997. We go every Saturday if the service is not cancelled. We see half of the girls one week and the other half the next. I wish we could see them all every week, enabling them to grow spiritually. We just have to keep praying for that. If I can, (thru Our Lord) be of any kind of help to one teen girl, that her life might be better than mine was by accepting Christ at an early age, it will all be doubly worth it.
Dec, 1998
