PETE WHITE Odin's Sacrifice (2000). Woodcut. |
Odin, All-Father of the Norse gods, gained his strength through the sacrifices made to him. Ever power-hungry, he decided that the ultimate way for him to gain power would be to sacrifice himself to himself. He did this in the traditional way, hanging himself from Yggdrasil, the World Ash, and piercing his side with a spear. At the end of nine days, he discovered the runes, which were a source of great power and magic.
This print was created for the Sacred Tree exchange for the Austrailian Printmaker's group.
It was selected to be in the 30th Annual Student Art Show at CSUSB.
The texture for the tree was done with a sandblaster. It was printed with Daniel Smith oil-based ink on BFK Rives paper.

This print was done in an edition of 40. I have about 3 left.
