| Kate Mulgrew, or Katherine Kiernan Mulgrew was born in Iowa in 1955. When she was just 17, she left home to study acting in New York. She was accepted into New York University, but at the end of her junior year, left to pursue her acting more closely. Early on in her career, Mulgrew starred as Mary Ryan in ABC's soap-opera ''Ryan's Hope''. At age 23, she became famous for her róle as Mrs Columbo in ''Kate Loves a Mystery!''. The show was, sadly, cancelled after just two seasons. In 1995, problems arose for Mulgrew. Her divorce had just come through, and she was losing money fast. Then, something 'cam up'. Genevieve Bujold had pulled out of starring as Nicole Janeway, for Star Trek : Voyager. Mulgrew stepped in, and Kathryn Janeway was born. |
